Hello
I'm looking for some help with deciphering some place names on parish records from St Botolph Aldgate, London.
The locations are noted at the end of the line and I'm assuming are in the Aldgate area but I can't decipher them except maybe for the word alley, but the plus sign is throwing me.
The original records can be found on Ancestry:
Leonard Redburn burial - 9th July 1665
Leonard Redburn baptism - 5th April 1663 } possibly the same alley
Sarah Redburn baptism - 3rd January 1664}
Any help is greatly appreciated

Could the + be Cross or Church
So eg. Church Lane Alley

I think the 'cross' you're seeing is w(i)t(hin) - an old abbreviation for 'within'.
I have come across this many times in old wills etc.
The name of the 'ally' starts with a 'b'. Compare it to the 'b' in Redburne.
'bare'?
John Strype's survey of the Cities of London and Westminster mentions 'White Bear Alley' by St Botolph's.

The 1665 burial of Leonard Redburne was from Rosemary Lane. Only Rosma is written here, but there is a pen-stroke from the end of the word pointing up to Rosemary Lane in the previous entry. Rosemary Lane is now Royal Mint Street. (In general, please post bigger snips, showing at least one line above and one below.)
I agree with White Bear Alley for the other two. This was roughly where Blue Boar Alley is on today's map (EC3N 1AH).

Thanks Goldie61, so do you think it reads ‘within” bare alley? As an abbreviation and misspelling of White Bear Alley.
I found a list of streets, alleys etc on this ward map https://mapoflondon.uvic.ca/PORT1.htm no.46 is white bear alley
Thanks also Bookbox I did wonder is this an abbreviation for Rosemary Lane, and thanks for the tip about posting more of the page, this was my first post in this forum so didn’t want to fall foul of the rules and post too much of the parish register

It having been decided it IS 'White Bear alley', that abbreviation could well be one for 'white'.
There's certainly a 'w' and a 't' there.
