Good morning Experts.
I am looking to find any info on my Grand father John Foreman known as Jack, and what regiment he was in during WW1.
He was born in 1896 in St Pancras London and died in Hendon TB hospital in 1929, the only family information /rumour I have is that he was given a white feather in Camden high street whilst driving a cart past the recruiting hall there, and although he was young he joined up.
Again rumour says he was in the Artillery or Horse Artillery, and that he was gassed in the trenches.He also lived near Edward street recruiting hall.If I can find info here, I can then find out if should visit the National archives.I did ask once before as part of a family trace but I did not put the same info.Thanks in advance, keep up the great work you do.

Unfortunately with such a common name & only rumours
to go on it's a pretty much impossible task to find him.
You could try looking for an obituary for him as they
often include war service info.

he died in 1929 from TB not during the war.Thanks no obituary

Are you only looking for his military past?
There is a site on Ancestry which has details about his siblings, parents etc etc

You state he was Young ? He was 18 in August 1914 - He was born 27 May 1896 in Marylebone to Henry Foreman and Margaret Mary Egan she died 1906 and his Father remarried 8 April 1908 Annie Richardson
His Father Enlisted 16 November 1914 the Royal Regt of Artillery and served 2 years 206 days at Home till he was Discharged on 09/06/1917 his Burnt Attestation papers have Survived
If John enlisted he probably joined the Same Regt his Dad was serving in during 1914 but there are several John Foreman in the Medal Index Cards but there is No way of identifying him amongst them whatsoever.
If he waited till 1916 and Conscription he may not have been allocated to the RFA and could be under any Regt.
A visit to the National Archives is of no value as they no longer hold his papers for WW1 if he served.
He married Esther Mary Whitlock in December Quarter 1921 and was not Serving in the Forces then which confirms nothing in the National Archives then.

thanks Alamo.johns father was named Henry every thing else for johns wife etc is right, there was a photo of John in uniform but it was lost when my nan his wife died.Maybe one day his army info will be found thanks. sorry meant to ask can you tell me where I can find Henrys full accenting papers to read.

Henry and Margaret Mary Egan married September Quarter 1892 St Saviour Vol 1d page 440
Sadly John's Army Records if he Enlisted - would have been sent in 1919 upon Discharge to the Army Repository Storeroom in Arnside Street London which was Blitzed in September 1940 and Destroyed 60% of those Records and John's did not survive to be scanned by Ancestry as I have searched them. So they won't turn up in the future.
Henry's have Survived as I found
I did find Records Survived for a Royal Regt Artillery Attestation for an 18 Yr old John Foreman but he was Discharged after a few days for lying about his age in 1915 so not him
If John had been Gassed I would have expected him to be awarded a Disability Pension and possibly Discharged on a Silver War Badge- I checked for both and there was No entry for him. Strange he did die Young aged 32 in March Quarter 1929 possibly War related.

hi Alamo John died in hendon TB hospital and my mum was only 5yo but she said her mum always said the affects of being gassed weakend his lungs which affected him after the war, I would love to see my ggrandad Harrys papers to get his description etc.could you let me know where I can find them.Thanks for you hard work

24 pages of Harry's Army papers for 70869 Henry Foreman are on Ancestry under Military and under WW1 Pension Records -which is odd and not Service Records.
Do you have a Copy of John's Death Certificate?
It would cost £3 for an instant Digital Image from the GRO

Re Henry foreman just checking dates I have,on his inlistment papers,he puts 1877 as date of birth,he was born 1873/4.so I guess as he lived in very poor conditions in Little Edward st Camden,he most likely lied to get in.

Henry and John Foreman proving a Real Challenge to Research
Agreed Henry lied about his Age at Enlistment on 16 November 1914 at age 37 because he was really aged 41 the month before as born 5 October 1873 to Henry Foreman and Margaret Revell
In Henry's Attestation papers 55371 he declared he married Annie Robinson Spinster 8 April 1908 but the Marriage Index records show he married June Quarter 1908 St Pancras Vol 1b page 244 to Annie Maria Walton
John Foreman was One of Five Children of Henry to his first Wife Margaret Mary Egan of which 3 died pre 1906
John was in fact a Twin with Harry Foreman but he sadly died aged 1 -June Quarter 1897 St Pancras
His Dad Henry had another Son Henry with his 2nd Wife and he died also aged 7 on 09/05/1916 his Death Certificate are in the Attestation papers - I am having problems finding Henry's birth in 1909 and the other 6 Children

Hi again I have John and Harry's birth certificate and looking on BMD I saw Harry died age 1,annie maria was a witness at johns wedding,John had two surviving sisters who lived into there 80s.
