I assume you are talking about this couple:
Frederick GILLIAM married Mary Jane ROBERTS in 1853, Presbyterian Church Geelong (according to Vic BDM index).
Not sure where the name MACKAY comes from?
-
I can see a birth for a Frederick William GILHAM registered at Ballarat in 1855, parents Frederick and Jane (nee ROBERTS).
-
Hi
Frederick Gilham born 4 Oct 1834 Lauceston s pf Thomas and Mary Gilham.Baptised 8th Oct.
Father Thomas died 26 March 1875 Geelong a gardener left a Will.Age c 60 years.
His wife was Mary McCoy .. McKay?
Possible NSW 1828 census
Thomas Gilham aged 23 freeman arrived 1829? wife Mary overseer Major Rhodes Wellington Farm stone quarry
But the marriage is Lauceston 1835
Thomas Gilham and Mary Thomas McCoy.
She seems to be a Mary Thomas who had married John McCoy 31st Oct 1808.
Son Albert Gilham born 20 June 1830 Hobart ,before her second marriage.
From her first-Henry James 1812,Mary Ann 1814,Charles 1815,Ann 1817,William 1819,Thomas 1821,Rebecca 1824 ,and James Waterson McCoy 1826.
As Albert and Frederick were born before her second marriage technically they should have taken her surname MCCoy/McKay. (Husband John died 12 Feb 1834 age 60 Hobart, parents Angus MCKay and Rebecca Simpson).
1856 Electoral Roll Geelong Thomas Gillam carrier Brittania St freehold
As for Mary Jane Roberts
She seems to have arrived age 19 as a domestic servantfor Mr Baynton in Geelong ,wages £20 3 shillings. She is from Cornwall .Arrives 18 Jan 1853 on the Stebonheath from Plymouth.
Children Frederick McKay 1855,Amelia 1861,Hugh 1863,George 1864,Louisa 1867,Thomas 1869,Lola 1871 ,Albert 1874.
Not seeing an immediate set of parents for her.Her death cert gives father as Thomas Roberts.
ps baptism Mary Jane Roberts d of Thomas and Martha 18 Oct 1835 Landewednack Cornwall is the only one I can see but it's a long way from Truro.

It is not the one born Landewednack, (which is on some trees for this family) she is still with family in Cornwall 1861 age 25 same area.

Thanks Ciderdrinker, that explains the MACKAY name.
Mummybear - the Victorian marriage certificate for Thomas GILLIAM and Mary Jane ROBERTS might hopefully show both parents' names and father's occupations. Civil registration began in Victoria in 1853, whilst the Act started in March, registration was not required until July. However the marriage record may still provide useful information.
The birth certificate for Frederick William GILHAM registered at Ballarat in 1855 should also show mother's birth place. - Is there where Truro comes from?
-
Children Frederick McKay 1855,Amelia 1861,Hugh 1863,George 1864,Louisa 1867,Thomas 1869,Lola 1871 ,Albert 1874.
Apart from Frederick 1855, has anyone found any birth registrations for the other children - in Vic or NSW, or anywhere?
-
Some possible deaths of these children:
George Edward McKAY - 1937 (15547/1937 ) Forbes (parents- Frederick and Jane)
Frederick W McKAY - 1913 (11573/1913 ) Condobolin (Frederick and Jane)
Amelia A HEMSWORTH - 1933 (18985/1933) North Sydney (Frederick and Mary J)
Amelia A MCKAY married John HEMSWORTH in Forbes in 1885 (4843/1885)
And you already have Lola SMART died Wyong 1956, aged 75.
-
I notice some family trees on Ancestry have the death of Hugh McKAY in 1887 at Launceston - however this is not a child of Frederick and Mary Jane. Death notice says son of Robert McKAY.

Son Albert Gilham born 20 June 1830 Hobart ,before her second marriage.
It appears that Albert was John's son, George and Frederick were Thomas' sons.

-
Yes been thinking trying to get last child birth certificate this will have all kids on there it will show me if Mary Lola McKay belong to Mary Robert
-
Albert Mccoy born 1830 and recorded as Son of John and Mary. George born 1832 and Frederick October 1834. John McCoy died in February 1834, so both boys are likely his. Although they were baptized later under Thomas and Mary Gillam.
