I'm just trying to figure out the circumstances which led to James Broadfoot being in two different regiments. I've found 2 pension cards for him. One showing that he was in the Scottish Rifles, no 2973, declared insane and sent to Pitton/Pilton. Another showing that he was in the Royal Scots Fusiliers, no 16247, declared missing presumed dead in 1915.
Annie Taylor was the mother of his illegitimate child and that is the same address (40 Logie Street, Govan) for Annie on the pension card that's also given on the child's birth record. There is also another pension record for James Broadfoot, no 2973, and it's the same address (134 Langlands Road, Govan) for him that's given on the child's birth record.
Does it look like he re enlisted after being declared insane??

...the same address (40 Logie Street, Govan) for Annie on the pension card that's also given on the child's birth record...the same address (134 Langlands Road, Govan) for him that's given on the child's birth record.
You've listed two different addresses above relating to the child's birth record. ???

Daily Record
07 January 1914
Is this the family of the man you're researching?
-
Edinburgh Evening News
10 November 1915

The newspaper clip refers to his parents.
They appear on his effects register.

The Silver War Badge records show :
James T BROADFOOT 2973 7th Scottish Rifles , enlisted 11.10.15. discharged 3.6.16. para 392 xv1 sick
The above is after the date of death given for soldier 16247.
FindMyPast has Scotland , Mental Health Institution Registers showing a James Telford BROADFOOT admitted 31 May 1916 and died 5 Oct 1952 in the Govan District Asylum .

Pretty much confirms 2 different men.
-
I've had a look at the 1952 Death Certificate. It confirms James BROADFOOT aged 70 died 6 Oct 1952 at 510 Crookston Road , Glasgow , the address of Leverndale Hospital. The parents are Alexander BROADFOOT and Isabella BROADFOOT , nee Telfer, the same parents given for the "other" James BROADFOOT. ???
-
Hopefully the OP will confirm the year and address on the child's birth record (mum Annie Taylor).
-
The other James had parents James & Isabella.
-
I think we nee a re-cap.
We have from the obit. Alex. Broadfoot at 134 Langlands Rd.
Father James Deceased mother Isabella nee Telfer
16247 James Broadfoot had parents James & Isabella.
It must be him that lived at 134 Langlands Rd not 2973 James Broadfoot.
Mother Isabella received his War Gratuity indicating his father James was dead.
Annie Taylor lived at the other address which is the same as the childs birth.
Just looked at the available info from the ledger & it says 16247 James
had mother Broadfoot who had a Guardian A.Taylor!
2973 James had the middle name Telfer no other info.
Good grief.

This should be fairly straightforward:
16247 James Broadfoot was from the Edinburgh/Musselburgh area and was presumed killed in September 1915. I don't see any Glasgow addresses. Parents James and Isabella
2973 James Telfer Broadfoot was from Glasgow (Govan), discharged sick in 1916, died in 1952. Parents Alexander and Isabella nee Telfer. 134 Langlands Road, Govan. He must surely be the father of the illegitimate Taylor child
The bit that's confusing as Jim mentioned is the "Guardian Miss Annie Taylor" that's listed on the pension index card for 16247 - a mistake by the War Office perhaps - entering it on the wrong card?

Glad you brought some clarity it was driving me mad.
