Greetings,
Genealogy research for myself and a friend spans the UK, Africa, The Bahamas and South Carolina.
From the UK the earliest known connection I can confirm on this particular branch is Henry and Susan (Susannah) Pratt from Essex, England.
The fascinating story is still unfolding and I hope to find more connections to this particular branch of paternal ancestry for myself and my friend.
Are there any other researchers or distant cousins with information on this particular branch of Pratt ancestry? I would love to hear from you.
Best regards,
Donnie Austin

From the UK the earliest known connection I can confirm on this particular branch is Henry and Susan (Susannah) Pratt from Essex, England.
If you know when they married the certificate can provide more information like fathers names/occupations to go back a little further.
Likely to be Henry Pratt to Susan King in Jun 1843 Tendring registration district which covers Wix.
-
(Daughter of Henry and Susan)
Mary Ellen Pratt
B:April 1844 New, Castle, Dorset, England
Not seeing a Mary Ellen but there was a Mary Ann age 7 in 1851 but born Wix Essex not Dorset.
Registered as Pratts Jun 1844 mothers maiden name King which fits the marriage above.
-
There is a Mary Ellen PRATT mother’s maiden name OWEN born in the correct quarter in 1844 in Newcastle under Lyme which matches with THE one married to Henry GLINTON.
-
You need Mary's Marriage certificate to confirm the name of her father. I would say it is most likely her name was Mary Ann and somewhere along the line the middle name has been switched. It is not unknown, I have several in my tree.
I see there are a l number of trees with her on Ancestry but none have evidence to confirm their information.
-
I will look further to see if I can come across the Marriage Certificate for Henry and Susan.
I attached what could be the same couple as you mentioned with Susan's maiden name possibly being KING.
I did find the Wix, Essex, England 1851 Census record (County/Island: Essex Country: England
Registration district: Tendring Sub-registration district:Harwich) showing Henry and Susan (Susannah) with three of their 7 children, that I indicted in bold type.
The 1871 (Registration district: Tendring Sub-registration district: Manningtree) Census shows Henry and Susan (Susannah) with their two younger children Sarah and John Pratt that I underlined below.
Mary Ellen Pratt
1844–1915
Susannah Pratt Shipton
1846–1883
Daniel Pratt
1850–1918
Hannah Pratt
1852–
Elizabeth Pratt
1855–
Sarah Pratt
1861–1893
John Pratt
1867–
BIRTH 1867 • Wix, Essex, England
DEATH Unknown
The 1881 Census shows Henry and Susan (Susannah) with the following information:
Street Address: Oakley Rd Cottage
Marital Status: Married
Occupation: Farm Baliff
Registration district: Tendring
Regarding parents, I do see an Essex Parish record for a Henry Pratt with a birth date of 24 May 1821 with parents John and Hannah. These could possibly be the parents of the Henry I am researching.
Name Henry Pratt
Gender Male
Birth Date 24 May 1821
Baptism Date 14 Aug 1821
Baptism Place Althorne, Essex, England
Baptism Age 0
Father John Pratt
Mother Hannah Pratt
FHL Film Number 001471806

Have you the Henry Glinton /Mary Pratt marriage?
Did they marry?
What documents agree with the 1839 birth for Henry? (I can see the reg obviously, but how have you linked to it?)
I see Benjamin Glinton arriving at Florida naming mother Mary Glinton back in Viking, Long Island Bahamas is described as African. The key at the front says African = Black.
His baptism confirms Mary formerly Pratt

I can’t see the birth of Marjiana.
I see at her marriage her parents (un named, give consent) and that her residence is “Pratts”.
Do you know what that is? It is a Plantation?

Looking at this site
https://lihistoryproject.wixsite.com/long-island-bahamas/old-inhabitants
It seems to suggest both the Glinton & Pratts were at Long Island well before the 1839 & 1844 English births.

Hi Donnie
Following this DJJ does not match this line
But
I have a theory that a mutual ancestors may come from Cornwall and have descendants who lived in Málaga

-
Thanks Brigid, I'll continue to look at Cornwall hints I have on Ancestry as well.
-
Try the isle of Man too
There is a town called Malaga on Isle of Man
Is it just.a coincidence?
There is no separate DNA ethnicity for Cornwell yet but it does appear as a regional division
