60 years ago when I was around 11 I was in a kite club run by a chap called Richard and his wife Lillian. Richard was a bit of a mystery man and I would like to do some research on him unfortunately as it was a long time ago I can’t remember his last name, but I know Richard and Lillian lived at 74 Water Lane Ilford Essex between 1960s and 1995 when he died his wife had died sometime before that. I have tried 192.com which doesn't go back that far and the land register, but they couldn't help. Has anyone have any ideas how to find who lived at an address in that time. Thanks Sirius

Visit the RO & check the ER’s for that address
-
Look for a probate record for first name, year of death and place.
It works on a subscription site.
-
Check for deaths for a Richard in Essex in 1995 & see if a surname jogs your memory
-
They're not there in 1964

(The link is misdirected by Ancestry - when you get to the page image, go to the previous page to see Water Street)

He is there when he died.

Don't have access to the link.
Is Fowell a possibilty? :-\
Or Faulkner-Fowell
-
Yes!
-
He was born 12 Sep 1906 (not 1907 as stated on his death registration) in Goodmayes, Essex. He was the only son of Richard Robert and Mary Faulkner Fowell. At the time of the 1911 census the family were at 91 Castleton Road, Redbridge, Essex. His father's occupation was coal salesman. In the 1939 Register, they are still at 91 Castleton Road. Richard junior is single and a professional musician.
He married Doris L Allen in Q2 1964. The marriage was registered in Ilford. Richard and Doris do not appear to have had any children. Presumably his wife went by her middle name.

Castleton Road is close to Goodmayes Station so that was probably where he was born.

My replies tried to guide Sirius to the probate record without naming the person. It was very easy to find.
I feel uneasy giving all the details when there doesn’t seem to be a family connection. However, I realise we give information out all the time. I’m just not sure in this case. :-\

Maybe not quite so simple for everyone.
Sirius may not have access to a subscription site. I don't at home at the moment.
All I was able to find was that the Allens had lived at 74 Water Lane and there was a possible marriage for daughter Doris Lillian to a Richard F Fowell who died in 1995.
Hence my suggestion. I missed the (free) probate calendar image for Richard, but thankfully Shaun nailed it for sirius.
I guess there is more than one way to skin a cat!

He is there when he died.
It seems Richard didn't actually die at his home address. The death was registered in Brentwood.
-
Sorry Jon, I wasn’t criticising - just concerned really.
‘When he died’, I meant the probate address - apologies.
Hopefully, it’s good news for Sirius, who can now research his mystery man - thanks to your and Shaun’s efforts.
Regards
Heywood

Thank you everyone, I am sure Faulkner must have been his name as his wife once told me he was a violinist, they never had any children.
