Title: trying to find a picture of Hedges/Slab Castle and Sidlow Mill both in Surrey
Post by: BronwenS on Sunday 19 May 24 09:17 BST (UK)
Kia ora

John Risbridger was a carpenter and he also had a farm called Hedges (now known as Slab Castle) where he lived with his wife Mary  (Mott) and their family, and subsequently, Mary Penfold, nee Gates, and her family by him.  With his second wife? (don’t think they were ever married) they lived at Sidlow Mill which is in the Domesday book and is the oldest mill on the Mole river.    John died in 1772.

Nga mihi nui (very best wishes)

Not a photo, but Slab Castle shows on this 1868 map:

This document about Charlwood says "Slab Castle is marked on a map of 1822 as Hedgers Castle"

Regarding Sidlow Mill, I have extracted this from the River Mole Wikipedia page's section on Watermills:

"The first mill at Sidlow was built during Saxon times. The final mill on the site was demolished in 1790, however remains of the mill leat are still visible.[11]"
