I've hit a brick wall in my search for John Alfred Donovan.
He lived in Skibbereen - his daughter Annie was born there (varying dates 1865 but census suggests 1871). He was a school master.
He also had a son, Timothy, who emigrated to the US.
Any help / suggestions most welcome.

Donovans are ten a penny for the era and geography you mention, but if you haven't already happened upon the following person, you should flesh her out if only to eliminate her. As is often the case, her birth year is all over the place. She's a Marie / Maria Donovan living in Mountpleasant Street Belfast in 1901, her stated age was 23, birthplace Co. Cork.

When she married Walter Charles Corry in Belfast in 1904, she gave her age as 24 and her father as John Donovan, school teacher.

After marrying, the couple upped and went to England, in 1911 her birth was indicated as 1885 in Cork, Ireland. The 1939 register gave her DOB as 17 March 1884.

Where does Skibberdeen come from? Killeeshil is about as far as you can get from Skibberdeen and still be in Ireland.
1901 and 1911 census give a birth year in County Cork of c1870. Have you already looked for a birth registration?

how about a Mary Anne Donovan born 1867 (https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details-civil/512cf77539299), parents John Donovan (no middle name recorded) 'National Teacher' and Anne Kingston, the child was born at Ballydehob in Schull union.
Could possibly be your Annie using her middle name later, or a maybe a sister ?

Gosh, thank you all for the information - what a wonderful community!
I cannot work out how to reply to each reply individually - sorry
Yes, there are certainly plenty of Donovans around Cork. :)
Annie married Joseph Hamilton - I am intrigued as to how that happened because they were geographically distant!
The Belfast info isn't this particulary Annie but who knows, may be related - worth exploring, thank you.
Thank you all for your help - lots of info to explore
