William Thurkle (b 1813; https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Thurkle-46) fathered several children whose birth registrations all name "Caroline Thurkle formerly Holloway" as mother. They were born in Southwark from 1839-1861 (though I think Caroline may have been born in Middlesex: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Holloway-6122). I cannot find any record that might refer to their marriage on FindMyPast, Ancestry, FamilySearch, FreeReg or GRO, even allowing variant spelling and different first names or surnames (so, e.g., no sign Caroline had married previously). It's possible from the 1841 census record (where her age is given as 20) that she might have needed a licence to marry, but I've not managed to find that either. Any tips or suggestions of what I might look for and where?

Is this the family at King Street, Saint Mary Newington in 1851? If so, Caroline's birth place is Clerkenwell (c1819). William's occupation is "skin collector". Lovely.

That's them - I'd seen the record but lost the significance of it pinning down her birthplace: thanks Ashtone!
He was a skin collector and his son became a butcher. A Mr W T Thurkle was advertising himself as the cheapest supplier of horseflesh for human consumption as late as the 1950s!
Thanks again,
Andy

Ages 1841 were rounded either up or down to the nearest 5 years for adults.
With them in 1841 is Edward Holloway age 15 Fishmonger.
Could these be Caroline's parents? i don't think I've found all the children yet.
James Holloway and Mary
Mary 1809 St George the Martyr Southwark
*Caroline 1815 St Andrew Holborn
Charles 1817 St Andrew Holborn
Maria 1820 Southwark
*Edward bap 24 July 1825 St George the Martyr Southwark -father Cheese Monger, abode Great Suffolk Street.

Thanks so much, amondg! I think those are her parents, and I'd found some of those baptisms but (crucially) not Edward's, which fits the 1841 record perfectly.
I'd found two others likely to be theirs:
* William, bapt 21 Jan 1810 in Holborn, parents James Holloway and Mary
* William Henry, b 1821, bapt 19 Aug 1821, d 26 Aug 1824, Southwark; James Holloway & Mary Ann (living at Great Suffolk Street)
Thanks again!
