Title: Altyaran, Derry
Post by: jwynne on Friday 03 May 24 07:19 BST (UK)
Hi.
Does anyone recognise the place name "Altyaran" in Derry, please.
I can't find it in Google, so suspect it's been spelled incorrectly on the marriage certificate (attached).
Thanks,
John

It looks like it may probably be “Altagarran”, which is near Foreglen, and is a sub-townland of Baile-Muine/Ballymoney.

Glad you are sorted, just thought Thomas McLaughlin might be related to Ellen McLaughlin and that Altyaran could be a house name.

It's possible. I've had the same thought, but haven't worked the connection out yet (if there is one).
