Hi, trying to find the parents of Thomas Lowther, born 1874 in Egremont. Died 1916 France.
I only have his son Charles' birth cert. from 1898 which has parents Thomas Lowther born in Egremont and Magdalene Lowther (nee Waters) born in Northumberland.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Have you looked for him on the 1881 census?
https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/list?cqs=england+census
Egremont came under Whitehaven RD & there is a birth in the Dec qtr 1875 on freebmd which may be his. If so his mothers maiden name was Dumagan as per GRO online
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp
There is an 1857 marriage on freebmd of Charles Lowther & Susannah Dummigan
There is this 1881 possibility as he named his son Charles

There are two candidates that I have found, the first is a better fit I think.
Thomas Lowther b 1875
parents Charles Lowther and Susannah Dummingan/Dumagan
1881 census has Thomas jr aged 5 born Egremont
Thomas Lowther 1877
parents Thomas Lowther and Catherine Poland
1881 census has Thomas jnr aged 4 born Cleator Moor

The details of the Lowther family in the article transcribed below match the 1881 census return corresponding to Thomas Lowther born 1875. In the disabilty column for that return Charles Lowther (46) is "blind ?? in iron mine". I can’t post an image because this is a lookup request thread.
19 October 1883: Maryport Advertiser
CHARGE OF STABBING.
CHARLES LOWTHER, the elder (50), labourer, unable to read or write, was indicted for unlawfully and maliciously wounding Charles Lowther, the younger, with a knife, at Egremont, on the 16th of July, 1883. The prisoner is a blind man, and the prosecutor is his son. –Mr. SHAND was for the prosecution, and said that the prosecutor's statement was that he was a miner, residing at Egremont with his father. About half-past eleven at night on the 16th of July, he was in the kitchen with his father, who was drunk, having been so during the previous Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. His brother-in-law, John Sloan, knocked at the door, and the prisoner, hearing Sloan's voice, wanted to open the door, but witness would not let him, and a struggle took place. The son got the father down, and during the struggle on the sofa, another son, William Lowther, saw that the father was using a knife. Charles Lowther, on getting away from the sofa, found that he had been wounded in three places. There were two wounds at the back of the shoulder, and one on the shoulder blade. He did not see the knife in his father's hand, nor did he feel the wounds when he was stabbed. As soon as the prisoner was taken he said "Yes, I did it; and here's what I did it with," and he handed a knife over. – Prisoner now pleaded "I am guilty, but I remember nothing, about it." – This was held to be a plea of not guilty, and he was put upon his trial. He accused his son Charles of having abused him on five different occasions during the last twelve months. —The son acknowledged that the father had called in a sergeant of police on one occasion, but he denied having repeatedly abused his father. He did not think his father knew what he was doing at times. –Charles Lowther, Mary Ann Quirk, and William Lowther gave evidence as to the struggle and seeing the knife. –Dr. Calderwood described the cuts, the largest of which was 2 1/2 inches. –Police-constable Lewis (192) gave evidence of the apprehension and confession of the prisoner. –The CHAIRMAN said no plea of ill usage could justify the prisoner's conduct. –The jury found prisoner Guilty, but recommended him to mercy on account of his blindness. –He was sentenced to Four months' imprisonment with hard labour.

I'm just beginning researching our familly history so thanks for the tips and links.
Many thanks for your time and efforts.

The Lowthers are a difficult family due to many 2nd marriages and many people of the same name marrying between Lowthers, Stewarts, Millers, Halls. I've spent years unpicking the families! If I can be any help I can try.
I am descended from Henry Lowther and Johann Young who had a huge family in Wigton.
