Bit of a vague request, but I'm trying to help a friend find a salon called 'Fancy That - Guys n Dolls' that used to be around in the 1970s in London - she thinks somewhere in Willesden/Neasden area. She thinks the shop sign had a man's face on one side and a woman's on the other, and that Fancy That may have been in purple ... no more info other than that! I know it's a long shot, but someone may recall it???? There may have been a chemist shop next door. I have done all the usual internet searches and image searches but nothing is coming up. I have also done a fruitless search on Brent Council planning applications site to see if it is mentioned in any change of use applications or shop renovations. Many thanks! Nina

What is her interest in it? Is she just looking for the address?

Yes, just the location - it's one of those things that has been bugging her for ages so we decided to try and solve it!

There was one in Kilburn Square. “On the first floor of the modern Kilburn Square complex in Kilburn High Street”
“Sophia & Guy”
“Brought to Kilburn by “revolutionary stylist” Francois”
I could imagine that turning into a colloquial “Fancy that”
Not getting any newspaper advertisement hits for “fancy that” lots of salons in other parts of the country for “guys & dolls”

Kelly's 1978 London-wide directory entry for Willesden Lane NW6, SW side, has:-
...
St. Julian's Road
11. Eagle Pharmacy
13. Fancy That, ladies' hairdresser
15. Babes, tobacconist
...
A few other Fancy Thats around London, but not hairdressers and not in NW.
I don't have intermediate volumes, but in the 1982 edition, Fancy That has become unisex (No 11 is not shown). In 1972, Eagle was there, No 13 was Gérard, ladies' hairdresser, and No 15 was a tobacconist under a different name.

Hello Chris - THANK YOU! Brilliant! We have now located on Street View what was the site of the salon next to the pharmacy - the salon still appears to be a salon called Studio 51, but the pharmacy is now a food establishment called Central Caribbean. My friend can now stop being irritated! Thanks again for your help, it's much appreciated. Nina
