Hello
I am not sure which board this should be on - hope this one is ok.
James Bayley is shown on the 1871 census with his family living in Macclesfield. The record estimates James' birth around 1792 in Biddulph, Staffordshire. I'm struggling to find any birth records or his parents to confirm his birth and his life pre living in Macclesfield.
Some details:
1841 Census Record - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M799-SMR
1871 Census Record - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VBX8-FQPance
Looks like James also died before 1881 as Hannah is listed as a widow and living with her son Zaccheus and daughter in law Harriett.
I would appreciate help in finding Zaccheus Bayley's father James Bayley birth records and if possible James' parents. There appears to be many James Bayleys over this period so wondering if anyone has more luck than me.
Thank you

There is a baptism in Biddulph on 26 Aug. 1792
for James Bailey, son of James and Mary.
Have you looked at the marriage record to see what information is given?

Looks like James Bayley married Hannah (unknown) in 1856 in St Michael's Macclesfield, Cheshire
I don't think you have the correct marriage date in 1856. There are some possibilities.
James Bayley married Hannah Atkinson
Marriage Date 9 Sep. 1822
Marriage Place Biddulph, Stafford, England
OR
James Bailey married Hannah Bevington
Marriage Date 16 May 1831
Marriage Place Prestbury, Cheshire, England
-
Oops, yes you are correct. The marriage date was for James' son Zacheus Bayley and wife Harriet Hunt. I will update my post.
Marriage at Maccesfield 17.3.1856
Zacharius Bailey 17 carter s of James labourer
Harriet Hunt 18 Mill hand d of William wheelwright
wit Rachel hunt and John Hugo Bickerton.

Zaccheus was born 1839 so James wouldnt have married Hannah in 1856
Looking on the GRO Hannah's maiden name was Bevington

Looking at the 1841 census Prestbury Cheshire it might be that James may have been married before
James 45 labourer
Hannah 30
James 16 brick maker
Lettice 14
Zachia 1
only Hannah and Zachia born in the county
17.8.1828 Lettice baptised St Lawrence Biddulph child of James and Mary labourer
19.6.25 James baptised St Lawrence to James and Mary occ Potseller? address given as Greenway Moor
Other (possible) children baptised to James and Hannah
21.6.29 William
I cant find any baptisms for the other children at the moment
James Bailey of Lunt Hill buried 11.4.1871 at St Peters Macclesfield age given as 79 which matches with the 1871 census

Wow good sleuthing Willow. Thanks for all your help digging into mysterious James. This will help my research hugely.
If he died at the age of 79 and this matches with the 1871 census record, am i right in thinking his birth was probably 1792 and therefore Neale's earlier comment with the baptisim record is probably the right one? There is a baptism in Biddulph on 26 Aug. 1792 for James Bailey, son of James and Mary?

Just a little more detail for James' first wife and family ........
For baptism of James Bailey 19.6.1825 – Biddulph, abode is Greenway Moor. Father a potseller
For baptism of Lettice Bailey 17.8.1828 – Biddulph, abode is Greenway Moor. Father a labourer
Burial 8 Oct 1829 of Mary Bayley Infant (age 2) – Biddulph, abode is Greenway Moor.
No burial for wife Mary found in Biddulph, but there is this one in Macclesfield which looks possible.
Mary Bailey burial 15 July 1830 age 31 (born 1799).
James Bailey (labourer of Macclesfield) married Hannah Bevington (spinster of Macclesfield)
Marriage Date 16 May 1831
Marriage Place Prestbury, Cheshire, England
Both bride and groom gave their mark X
Witnesses Martha Bevington and H R Rice

Thank you for this info Neale. It looks like James, Mary, and Hannah are the right people so I will continue my research in this direction. :)

The only thing you need to watch is the date of birth on the 1871 it says 1792 in 1861 it says 1797 in 1851 its 1795 and 1841 its 1796
You have to remember James was illiterate and people forget their year of birth

I don't think that your James is the son of James & Mary:
James, son of James & Mary Bailey, baptised 18th July 1791.
James, son of James & Mary Bailey, buried 23rd July 1791.
James, son of James & Mary Bailey, baptised 26th August 1792.
James, son of James & Mary Bailey, buried on 12th May 1801.

As Willow mentioned earlier there is baptisim in 1795 for a James Bayley in Biddulph, parents Thomas and Nancy (Anne) Bailey. I've found Thomas' burial record which has him placed at Greenway Moor the same place where James' children Lettice (born 1828) and James (1825) are recorded living when they're baptised.
Burial date 1831: - https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/5818ee08e93790de6a3d25d2?search_id=5a612108f493fdb03f715405&ucf=false
