Title: Help to decipher two lines in a will
Post by: grandmaster on Friday 29 March 24 19:58 GMT (UK)
I'm trying to establish the relationship of the Morgans named in the attached will to the person who made the will (Thomas Williams). I believe the Morgans might be related to his wife Margaret, but can't be sure.

Here are the lines. I need help with filling in the blanks.

"...I give and bequeath to and among the ____ of my ____ _____ Anne Morgan the widow of the late Reverend Richard Morgan of _________ ______ _____ the sum..."

Thanks in advance for any help you're able to provide.

... among the children of my deceased niece Anne Morgan the widow
of the late Revd. Richard Morgan of Ma......ydd clerk dec[eas]ed...

Ma......ydd is probably a Welsh place-name which I do not recognise, others may be able to help.

Thank you Zefiro, MollyC, Raybistre & JenB!

Very helpful, I didn't expect anyone to get the Welsh house name.

There are some amazing people here!

Now that they have solved it, here's a clipping for your files:

Thanks for that clipping bbart

It's actually thrown a bit of a spanner in the works because I thought Anne Morgan's (née Williams) father was one of the other famous brothers (David) of Swyddffynnon/Ystradmeurig - not John.

The John Williams of Ystradmeurig, as mentioned in the newspaper clip, has a bio on the Welsh Biography website which lists his children: https://biography.wales/article/s-WILL-JOH-1745 (https://biography.wales/article/s-WILL-JOH-1745) - and Anne isn't one.

Might have to do a bit more research! Thanks again.

The news reporter could have been wrong... it wouldn't be the first time!
