Hello
Searching for a marriage record of Hugh McLaughlin to Ellen Mailey 29th May 1906, Limavady, Co Londonderry, Ireland.
On Scotlands People birth of Susan McLaughlin 23rd June 1907 Greenock to above names which is where I’ve picked up marriage details from. Unable to find marriage in my searches on Irish sites.
Ellen McLaughlin born Greenock 25 Nov 1908 and parents listed marriage as same date.
Ellen McLaughlin nee Mailey dies in Greenock aged 39 25th June 1921. Her parents listed as Joseph Mailey (deceased) and Ellen nee Connor (deceased).
Am trying to locate info on who Hugh McLaughlin’s parents might be?
On Scotlands People 1921 census,
Hugh aged 46 from Co. Derry Dunled (?)
Ellen aged 39, Limavady
Susan aged 14, Greenock
Ellen aged 13, Greenock
Charles aged 9, Co Derry Coleraine
Joseph, aged 5, Greenock
Hugh aged 1, Greenock
Thanks

A transcript of Ellen's baptismal record includes the following comment:
ELLEN MAILEY MARRIED HUGH MCLAUGHLIN IN COLERAINE 28/6/1910 BY REV. COURNEY.
I still can't find the marriage, but they were in Coleraine for son Charles' birth the following year:

Just 'hazarding a guess', as my dad would say, I wonder if this is the birth of Hugh McLaughlin. This is based on the Irish naming patterns where the first born boy would be named for the husband's father
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1876/03037/2113488.pdf
Charles McLaughlin and Susan O'Hara McLaughlin are the parents and the child was born in Craig Tamlaghtard on 4/10/1876. Charles is from Dunboe. And a bit of possibly useful info the person present at the birth was Ellen O'Hara.
Looking at the names in the 1921 Census there are McLaughlin family names Susan (for Hugh's mother) and Ellen for her mother, and poss the Ellen in Hugh's birth Certificate.

So does this mean that the marriage may have been 28/6 /1910 and so where does 29/5/1906 fit?

Here's the register image for folk to look at, left page at bottom, I think it says Elenor rather than Ellen:

marriage transcribed as

EDIT to add - viewing the record for the above transcribed marriage entry on Anc*y takes you the baptism entry for Hugh McLaughlin

marriage transcribed as Elenor Marley and date transcribed as

Source Ireland, Catholic Parish Registers, 1655-1915
So the correct date of the marriage is 30/12/1910.
Ellen is a common enough short form of Eleanor/Elenor

So the correct date of the marriage is 30/12/1910.
To me it looks more like Dec 29 1910. As to 'correct', we now have two different marriage dates in 1910 from his and her entries in baptismal registers (though I haven't seen the original register image for Ellen/Elenor). I'm assuming that the couple had their first children out of wedlock and made up a marriage date to pass that off.

I have tried searching Coleraine civil marriages around the 1910 date and it seems there are no marriages there which took place in a Catholic chapel. Perhaps those records were not submitted.
I wonder if this is the priest named in that annotation - Father Matthew Connery?

This is the church, I think:

Murphyz, perhaps you could check with that parish to see if they retain the records?

Hello
Thanks for all your searches and suggestions - never ceases to amaze me how much info roots chat finds. Does it look as if Ellen Mailey and Hugh McLaughlin were not married when Susan and Ellen were born in Greenock in 1907 and 1908, and latterly married in 1910??
1st attachment Ellen born 1908, 2nd attachment death of Ellen (the mother nee Mailey) in 1921, 3rd birth of Susan in 1907
Sorry for delay in replying,
Cheers
