Hi there. I was wondering if anyone would be able to make out the mother’s forename on this attached death certificate. The person writing it has made a mistake then scored out the name and it’s become a bit illegible.
Thanks,
Alan

It looks a bit like Johnston.

Possibly Catherine?

Agree - Catherine? or Cathrine?

1796 to 1811 - There are 10 children baptised to Robert Laing and Katherine Johnston in Sanquhar. Margaret on 6 Sept 1805.

I think mother's given name was recorded as Janet....then changed to be Catherine?

Agree...missed the point about forename!
