For that last week or so, I've been unable to open any Ancestry hints. Is anyone else having the same problem? Any idea how I can resolve it?
-
Yes I've seen that problem. It goes away for me by refreshing the page.

It is probably not worth bothering with.
They have recorded the following false info
MS Thelma Eileen Emma Reynolds
Gender Female
Age 83
Birth Date 7 Jan 1928
Last Residence Crewkerne, Somerset, England
Postal Code District Ta18
Death Date 18 May 2011.
Although the date of death is correct, the birthdate is about six months too early.
What is MS supposed to mean?

GRO is simply showing Year of Birth?
Do you have a copy of the Death Certificate?
And, why are you piggy-backing on a thread about Ancestry Hints?
-
Hints always need to be looked at carefully and not just accepted; but you have to be able to open them to do that. And when you want to attach a census to a family you definitely need to see the nitty gritty of the entry!
Anyway, (should anyone else have a similar problem), I've discovered that disabling the adblocker on my antiviral software allows me to open said censuses etc. I'll leave this here in case it helps anyone else.

Report,
Because the the of the tile of the tread is Problem with Ancestry
The poster asks if anyone else is having problems and
Because I have just seen information on Ancestry that is false.
Why do people ask such questions?
-
Information on Death Certificates was supplied by the informant - who was named on the certificate.
Neither Ancestry or GRO make changes to the information.

The birthdate was probably transcribed by someone from the USA and they've used their usual date formula of month-day-year, instead of the British formula of day-month-year. So I'm guessing her birthdate was actually 1st July 1928?
It took me a while to work out why so many dates were wrong on recent death records, but that's why.
-
Thank you Sandy W. That would account for the birthday shown being incorrect.

I don't think it was an invitation for anyone to post Ancestry problems or the thread would very quickly get to 100's of posts and become unreadable.
I think a better thread title would have been "Problem with Ancestry Hints".
It's always good to create a longer and more specific thread title to ensure that you get an answer to your specific question.

Re death records wrongly transcribed using the American date format, I've just found a 2003 death record where both birth and death dates were wrong:
Birth date 12 Jan 1912 transcribed as 1 Dec 1912
Death date 3 Oct 2003 transcribed as 10 Mar 2003.
... and when I submit corrections they show up backwards i.e "1912 Dec 1"
Honestly Ancestry, sort yourselves out. It's no wonder so many Ancestry trees are full of errors. If experienced researchers have problems, how on earth are beginners/novices meant to manage?

Another unintended consequence of Britains special relationship with the North Americans.
