Title: RootsChat message blocks content
Post by: sparrett on Monday 04 March 24 04:07 GMT (UK)
I suspect this maybe a problem at my end,
But I'm sure our RootChat administrators will not be pleased to see the abuse of their logo.

Clicking a link to open a rootschat page( eg Index) the attached appears and cannot be closed.
Any ideas?

Did that come up from within RootsChat or did it come from a link outside of RootsChat?

Sue, I have had the same thing pop up on my screen several times in the last 2 days.

Hi
Erato, It pops up when you click on any rootschat link.
For instance Austrlian board, Rootschat Index etc. So answer-within
If am not logged in.

Once logged in, I can move freely around the entire site, no problems.

Interesting Neale to hear I am not alone. Yes, last 2 days exactly.

I've had the same pop up too.  Glad to hear it's not just me.

It's really annoying . >:(
I wonder if it is just in Australia. Did yours start 2 days ago , Maddy?

It makes it hard to get into R Chat and you have to login fast as soon as you locate an "open window" and then just stay logged.

That's how I'm coping with it, anyhow!

I had this pop up a couple of times yesterday when not logged in, I’m in the UK so it’s not just Australia.

Can I ask,
How you manage to work round it to login in the first place?

I just closed down Rootschat and clicked back in on my link and managed to get in ok.  I didn’t have the problem this morning though.

Hopefully admin will get to the bottom of it soon.  I hope other Rootschatters see this thread before they are tempted to click on the dodgy link thinking it’s genuine.

There has also been a couple of spam threads on RC over the last week, I think using genuine RC members user names, they were deleted.

I have reported this thread to Moderators. Saying we hope there is a way to solve the problem.
Here's hoping.

As many of you know, it can be a struggle to keep the infrastructure of this site running. It has over twenty years of posts and images that have to be stored, backed-up, and the servers themselves are owned and paid for by ourselves. RootsChat is free to use,  but not free to run.

To keep the site going, we show ads. This alert is shown to people who for some reason or another don't allow ads to be shown. It's a small way for us to attempt to recover lost revenue. To stop seeing that alert, just enable ads to be shown on RootsChat.

Logged in users are not shown ads anyhow, so once you're in you won't see them. Happy days.
