Hello,

I came across this record for Roy Francis Beedell however I don't really know what it means?

Could anyone help?

When he attested for the Royal Artillery he was given the army number 1644693. It looks like he was transferred to the Wiltshire Regiment in either August or December 1944.

Definitely 8 December. Depending on which battalion he joined he might have fought either in Burma (1st bn) or NorthWest Europe (2nd, 3rd and 4th Bns). He was attested in 1940

He was initially in a light anti aircraft unit. Due to a massive shortfall of Infantry soldiers after the Normandy campaign a lot of soldiers from the support Corps and RAF were transferred en mass to the Infantry, your man was one of them.
