Came across these death entries on FreeBMD. Not related to me as far as I know but wondered if anyone knew the story. Maybe quads?

They certainly look like quads as the mother's mmn is King for all four

There is a newspaper report of the birth of quads to a Mrs Robinson in Gloucester in August 1912.
It says that one was stillborn and the other three died within a week of their birth.
-
That's so sad.
Would a death have been recorded for a stillborn? I thought there had to be a live birth before a death was recorded.
-
There is a separate Stillbirths Register - NOT available online.
I believe you have to contact GRO at Southport, and prove your link to the stillbirth.

Yes, I knew that. The question was, would a death have been recorded if the child was stillborn. I thought not. Which would suggest all four were born alive.

Newspapers could make mistakes in 1912, just as now.
Or perhaps the parents thought "All four of our little girls need to be remembered and recorded" so they just registered them all despite one having been stillborn.
Sad tale though.

Gosh, how very sad, wonder if they were full term or premature .
Poor parents, mother especially after carrying them for months then their tiny lives ended.
Hope they had living children after that sadness.

Whoever the informant was, they must not have understood the regulations becaue all four births were registered as well as the deaths.

Robinson Burials:
Cissie lived for 5 minutes, Charity lived 1 day and Hope lived for 4 days and all three were buried on 6th August 1912. Faith lived for 7 days and was buried on 9th August 1912.

So Cissie was born alive, and took at least a few breaths after birth. So she could legally be declared live.
My understanding is that many a midwife swore that a baby took 2 breaths after birth, so that the child could be buried inside the church yard with a record of the death, and not just "discarded".
