Title: France vital records
Post by: diane5250 on Monday 05 February 24 18:18 GMT (UK)
Hi, I am trying to help a friend who is searching in France for her ancestors.   Is there a website where you can request a death certificate from 1918.   He died in Villeblevin.  His family was from the Paris area, but he was not living with them at the time of his death, his mother died in 1915 and I managed to find her death but not his. she died in the Paris area.   name is Eduardo Michels.  thanks for any help on where we could request a death certificate in France. I'm not familiar with searching French records.

I can see no actes de décès available on line for Villeblevin. There are a couple of men called Édouard Michel coming up with a death in 1917/18 but not in Villeblevin. Was he a soldier, was he married? Parents names?

You could try to contact the Villeblevin Mairie:

Sorry, I should have been clearer, Edouard was a child when he died, four years old.  He was born in 1914 and he died in 1918.  his death according to my friend occurred in Villeblevin  his father, Nicholas Michels  lived in Paris.   His mother Catherine Carville Michels died in 1915.   Maybe he was living with relatives when the death occurred.   His father married again to a Suzanne Jacoby.

Thank you very much for your response.    I can find details on his mom but nothing on him.

I've had another look but not come up with anything yet. The actes (and tables décennales) de décès for 1918 in Villeblevin are not available on line.

here's Edouard precise date of death

I found some Michels from Luxemburg  living not far from Villeblevin in the 19th century.
As you said  the child may have been staying with family (or a foster mother).

As manukarik said , you'll have to ask for his "acte de décès" at Villeblevin's mairie.

Wow, thank you jroger, I am thrilled to be able to pass this on to my friend.  A bit of background, Nicholas Michels and Catherine Carville were married in Ireland in 1911, then moved to France.  They had two boys, Jacques born in July of 1912 and then Eduoard in 1914.   Catherine died in 1915.   Nicholas' family did indeed live in the Luxemburg area of France so maybe those Michels are related.    I believe you are right and that perhaps Edouard was living with family members in Villeblevin.

I will let her know where to apply for Eduoards dc and perhaps she can find out where he is buried. she is going to be thrilled with all of this information

A big thankyou to jroger and manukarik for responding to my post.

Just wanted to add, that I was able to find Jacques Michels birth as well in Paris.   It took me awhile to figure out the borough but I managed to do that and then located his birth and it appears to be his death as well.
thanks so much.

Many thanks for your help.
