Hoping someone can help me.
I am trying to find out if there exists a obituary for Elizabeth Prior, to confirm a death date of Sep 1923 Hackney.
The last census entry I have is 1921, where she is with her daughter Eva and Selina Gee.
Elizabeth Prior
Born 1841 Cork, Cork, Ireland
Living in Eltham, Lewisham, London, Kent.
Previously lived at 6 James Street Colchester.
Widow of Samuel Prior, children Elizabeth Harden, Samuel, William, Louisa Holmes, Thomas and Selina Gee. Along with Francis Lynch from a previous marriage.
-
The best confirmation of the date would be on the death certificate.
Newspaper reports can have errors.
The death registration in Hackney has age 82.
-
That's what I'm thinking I'll have to do. Just wanted to double check I was ordering the correct certificate, as not sure where or who she was living with, after everyone flew the nest.
-
The age certainly fits. I would imagine as she was elderly her daughter would still be looking after her.
Is Hackney the right area for where she was in 1921?
Sometimes you just have to take a chance and cross your fingers!

Had a quick search but didn't some across anything, others may be luckier for you. :)

You may be aware but just in case you're not you can order a digital image from GRO cost £2.50

Thanks, I think that may well be the best option. I hadn't realised England had finally got with the times and brought in digital records.

Thanks for the advice just checked and it's not her who died in 1923. Oh well one crossed off the list, anyhow.
-
Oh no sorry it wasn't the right one but yes one to rule out at least.
Just out of interest what ruled it out?
She could be buried with her husband if you know where he is.

It said on the certificate widow of George a docker.
Tried one in 1924 Brighton as well. And this one was a widow of Noah another docker.
I think I will have to get hold of the full copy of the 1921 census and see if that yields any further clues. As I think her age has been entered a few years out on the death certificate.
-
So got 1921 census and she is living with them in 12 Rifle Street Eltham, which was part of a camp set up to house munitions workers. None of them are working but Selina's husband Ernest is in the army. I'll have to keep digging I think. Thanks for all the help.

Who is this one, an outside possibility? :-\
June 1922 Alverstoke 2b 679
Prior, Elizabeth
Age 74
Elizabeth is with her daughter in 1921. By 1923 Selina the daughter is in officer's quarters in Hampshire with her husband Ernest Godfrey.

jonw65, that could be a very good shout. Selina (daughter) was at Elson, Gosport in 1923, 2.1 miles away from Alverstoke.
Seemingly no aged Elizabeth Prior's in Alverstoke in 1921 census.

Thanks worth a look for sure.

Just got the certificate it's her. My great grandfather must of come over from Ireland as he's the informant. I should have known he'd get the age wrong as, he got his daughter's age wrong on her death certificate too.
Thanks everybody. I don't think I would have solved this with out your help.
