Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could help find what happened to Thomas Samuel Cosgrove after the 1911 census?
Thomas was born (illegitimate) on the 6th September 1894 in Elswick, Newcastle - baptised in Benwell. In 1901 he was living in his great-grandad's house with his mum and sister: 27 Grace Street, West Hartlepool. In 1911 he was living with his mum and Joseph Coulson who left his wife and children to live with them: 43 Bedford Street, West Hartlepool.
I have no other information on him and cannot find him on the 1939 register but also no death record? There are some electoral registers for ''Thomas Samuel Cosgrove'' which may be him but I'm not sure...
Thank you for any help! :)

Had you followed up the details in the 1918 absent voters list?
Ie “2346 L/Cpl , 2nd. Res. Bn. Royal Guernsey L.I.”
OR (same address!). 81946 Pte., 167 N.C., R.D.C.

His Military Pension Ledger Index Card gives his service numbers as follows
R. D. C 81946,
D. L. I 11721,
R D C 66162,
R Guernsey L I 2346,
AMPC 13025453
The last one AMPC (Auxiliary Military Pioneer Corps) suggests that he was still serving in the army well after WW1 – and possibly into WW2, which might explain why you cannot find him on the 1939 Reg.

Thank you for your replies, I don't think I have access to those military records (where did you find them?) but is there any information on them about Thomas that may help confirm it's the right one? I do remember someone mentioning something about him living in Guernsey so it sounds promising!
Thank you again! :)

Ah ok, I see it now - under Cosgrave rather than Cosgrove. I can see a 1921 census for ''Thomas Samuel Cosgrove'' and a Gertrude Marion living in Guernsey - I think this is probably him? There is a marriage between ''Thomas Cosgrove'' and ''Gertrude Kershaw'' in Warrington, 1918 which may be them, but would a Guernsey marriage show, or is Guernsey under a different record set? Also does the 1939 register cover Guernsey?
Sorry for the questions and thank you for the help! :)

Births Jun 1919
Cosgrove Ronald mmn Kershaw Warrington 8c 282
This young man can be found in 1921 with parents. Sorry info is scant but have to be careful not to break rootschat rules.
SS
added, also appears with parents in 1939, father born 1898 so not your man

Ah, thank you - I can discount that then. There must be another Thomas Cosgrove who marries a Gertrude, maybe it's because they married in Guernsey I can't find it (or they never married).
Thanks again :)

That 1921 you found does look correct. age is good. He’s clearly CosgrAve though. The same as the military record. And he has signed neatly himself.
For guernsey civil records…. https://www.priaulxlibrary.co.uk/ But someone has to look on site. I didn’t look as far as if they have people you can pay, but I would think there are.
