Title: FamilySearch
Post by: AllanUK on Saturday 27 January 24 13:42 GMT (UK)
Every time I use FamilySearch I have to log in -- in the past, there used to be an option to remain signed in for two weeks but that option seems to have disappeared. Am I missing something obvious?

Yes, i have the same problem. It has been like that for a few weeks now. Another wonderful improvement!

Another useful tool lost to users  :( Why introduce changes that are a backward step.

I faithfully check the box to stay logged in for two weeks but I'm lucky if I can last 12 hours without having to repeat the process.  It's been like that for years.  I wrote to FamilySearch and asked for an explanation but got no reply.

I'm with Erato on this!
It's always been that way. ::)

There is now no box to tick to stay logged in as there used to be. If there is, please tell me where to find it.

This is the sign in page I now get https://ident.familysearch.org/identity/login/?state=https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog

No, there is no longer any box to tick.
We do have cute little jelly-bean trees now.  :D

Some of the big family tree websites introduced stricter login requirements after the recent 23&Me hacking scandal. Ancestry (and FindMyPast I believe) brought in two-factor authentification, and FamilySearch removed the "keep me logged in" feature.

I think because FamilySearch has a lot of users who mainly access the website through libraries and family history centres, they decided not to make it possible for users to accidentally leave themselves logged in.

Ancestry and FindMyPast do not ask for 2 factor authentication for normal searching and family tree use.

I have found that I am continually having to log back into familysearch, ancestry, FindMyPast and even rootschat has its moments

Normally OK with Ancestry but have log in almost every time for FindMyPast  :(

My browser remembers login details so it's just one click.

I also liked to stay logged in on FindMyPast as it is easier for me rather than having to keep signing in. I wonder if these websites tightening of security are for our benefit or for theirs, so they do not get as many complaints to have to deal with.

It may add a few seconds' work, but I try to log out of anything at the end of every session.  It has always been good practice, and I like to believe it makes hacking a little harder.  I may be wrong, of course - maybe a nerd or geek might comment ?  ;D
