Based on the ages of the children born in the State of New York they should be on the 1850 census.
-
Thanks to all is there any news of John of the same family he would of been born around 1851 in u.s he is my great grandfather.thanks for looking I don’t have ancestry.
-
Based on the ages of the children born in the State of New York they should be on the 1850 census.
There was an Adeline Winchel on the 1850 in Fort Covington, Franklin. New York. Not sure she would be correct if the children attributed to Allen and Adeline are to be believed.
Elijah Winchel 39
Dorcus Winchel 55
Lucy Winchel 26
Dorcus Winchel 23
Adeline Winchel 25
Malvina Winchel 6
Anna Winchel 3
James Barker 56

I’ve only scanned through the posted information (hubby is watching tv and I can’t think) ;D but…
from the quoted details, I believe Allen was born in Ontario, and his parent(s) were of Scottish descent or were actually born in Scotland. At least that’s what I’ve discovered about all of my ancestors on Canadian census returns (born in Ontario, either stating English or Irish nationality).
Did Allen claim to be born in Scotland in other census years? If things quiet down here, I’ll look through your thread to see where he stated that he was born. ;)
-
Thankyou born Scotland I just can’t figure out why my he had kids in the states I can’t find his marriage to Adalia John was 2 years old before coming to Canada and another son was born in the states as well I’ve been looking for a couple years with no luck thanks for trying
-
From New York you just have to cross Lake Ontario and you are in Ontario Canada.
Adelia and her sister Lucy were born New York State.
From Michigan again just cross Lake Huron and you are in Ontario.
Adelia's father moved from New York to Michigan I believe from census I looked at.
It just isn't that far and Allan could have moved to find work.
From Illinois to Ontario just cross Lake Huron into Michigan and Lake Michigan into Illinois.
-------------------
On 1861 census John is born Canada not the USA his sister Cordelia was born in USA. Information on death certificates is given those left behind.
1901 Herbert states they came to Canada 1853 before John was born.
Since Allan was Roman Catholic you need to contact R.C. churches in the area the records are not on film.
Adelia was Presbyterian they could have married in either church but with scaled down rites as it appears neither converted.
(I had excellent results when I contacted an R.C. church in Ohio)

Thankyou I’m just learning this stuff little by little it can get complicated sometimes thanks for helping finding Allen in the states has been difficult he was my great great grandfather on my mother side.Tracing him to find his parents is going to be difficult to say the least
