Title: Myra Madge BROWN
Post by: red3 on Monday 22 January 24 02:22 GMT (UK)
Hi
I am trying to find Myra Madge Brown.
She was the  adopted daughter of  William John and Laura Brown.

The birth appears to have been recorded in 1971 under the name Myra McLeod Brown.

She is mentioned in William's will which is available at NZ Archives 1928. (Will written February 1922)

Myra Madge married Kenneth Steward Eather on the 28 June 1922 Auckland NZ. (NZ Herald 1 July 1922)
The marriage notice gives Kenneth's father as J Easter of Australia.

The last record of her is from Family Search - Passenger record on the Moeraki for Sydney 29 June 1922 travelling with her husband.   Eather KS aged 27 - Gentleman and Eather MM aged 21.

Can anyone see what became of Myra?

Thank you Red3

From that can deduce her date of birth was 2nd August 1900.  (Might help for subsequent  records)

Have you the cert?

I have not given any bequest to my adopted daughter Madge Myra Brown (who is now temporarily living with me again) because of her loose, improper conduct and because of her having left home several times in defiance of the wishes of myself and my wife and because I am utterly disappointed and grieved over her

23 Feb 1922.

Red3, not directly Myra, but Kenneth looks likely to be the death registered in NSW in 1989 to a Samuel John, and Anne.  Have you seen this?

EATHER KENNETH STEWART 12572/1989 SAMUEL JOHN ANNE

Have you looked across the ditch for Myra?

Ww1 record  though gives father as John Roland Eather , mother Hanna.
Hanna died 1952. Will is online. Only daughters are named.

Cannot see Kenneth on a single electoratal roll

Just pinning these snippets on the EATHER family in case they help round something out or eliminate someone:

Kenneth Stewart EATHER remarried in 1931 under the name of Kenneth Stewart LEVER.

Kenneth S LEVER m. Celie SCOTT 8 September 1931 North Sydney #13337
https://familyhistory.bdm.nsw.gov.au/lifelink/familyhistory/search

He appears to be using the assumed name LEVER during the 1920's with reports in the newspapers from VIC, SA and NSW., including a 3 month gaol sentence in VIC.

Thats a big find Thank you!

The next big question is what happened to Myra Marge Brown?

Moving forward on Merlin's excellent finds there. .
Looking at the enlistment record for Kenneth Stewart LEVER in WW2. Dated 22/4/43
First page I do note that in completing the document, Kenneth who was usng a false name, thought at first to also give a false birth date, altering the month by one.  He reconsidered ;D, sctatched it out and wrote his correct one!

Looking at page 9 of this same record.  There is a letter about financial assistance and it is dated 1963.
It is from a different wife.
Thelma LEVER .

She states her husband is 70 years old and the address is 8 Manning Rd. Double Bay.

Thelma Louisa Howick LEVER died in 1976
LEVER Thelma Louisa Howick
16721/1976
Parents Maurice & Amy
001

She was nee GARWOOD and can be seen on the Australian electoral Rolls in Tasmania and NSW living with her mother, Amy Beatrice GARWOOD, and both perform HDs.

They were English and can be seen in 1911 together where Thelma is an infant.
A possible immigration in 1930. To Sydney per Mongolia  . Amy GARWOOD aged 48, and Nellie GARWOOD (is this Thelma? not sure) aged 20.

Amy Beatrice died in 1944, (b. 1879) in Victoria.
I have not located a marriage for Kenneth and Thelma.

No closer to the whereabouts of Myra.  >:(

Would that birth registration be helpful (the 1971 one). She must have initiated it mustn’t she?  Who else would?  And presumably because she needed it for some reason at that age (71). Pension? Or citizenship for a child?

It is supposed to have the residence of the informant on it.

Is the McLeod a clue?

In the 1922 of Myra's adoptive father William, which I seem unable to access, were there siblings, adoptive or other, mentioned ?

No.  Estate goes to wife’s nephew if she predeceased him
I note he revisited the Will (codicil) in 1927 and still didn’t put Myra back in.

So father was still outraged or did not know anything further about her since Myra Madge married and left NZ all within 24 hours. ;)
