I CONCLUDE that Edward Hopkins (above) was
son of John Hopkins and Sarah Smyth (above)

 HOWEVER
 Edward Hopkins of Edenderry
 died 22 Dec 1931 at age 82
informant was son “George” of Edenderry

I CONCLUDE that this Edward Hopkins who died 1931 at 82 was born circa 1850
son of John Hopkins of Powerscourt and Sarah Smyth of Powerscourt

 HOWEVER
John Hopkins of Powerscourt and Sarah Smyth of Powerscourt registered a son
 Edward Sydenham Hopkins in 1864....

There would not be two sons named Edward

Can anyone help with information on this family?

Thank you all for your input.

I am still confused about this family

Edward Hopkins of Edenderry, Kings Co who married Mary Ann Smith in 1900 was born about 1851 according to the 1911 Census.  At marriage his father was listed as John Hopkins - gatekeeper.

Edward Sydenham Hopkins had a father John Hopkins who was also a gatekeeper..BUT HE WAS BORN 1864 NOT C1851

Can anyone shed some light on this?   Were there TWO JOHN HOPKINS - GATEKEEPERS???

There are several Poluce Gazette, Ireland notices on Ancestry - all the same and referring to the same date - January 1877.

‘Description of Sydney Hopkins native of Powerscourt. ……absconded and stole the sum of £2 from his father, John Hopkins.’
He is described as 13 yrs. I wonder if he could be Edward Sydenham.
-
It’s not unheard of to call two children the same name and use their second name on a daily bases.
I would think the Sydney heywood found is Edward Sydenham and the other Edward is an earlier child either originally named Edward or John Edward or similar.

It would be good to find another record of Edward S but perhaps they never found him.
His baptism is in the church records on Irish Genealogy but unfortunately no other baptisms for this family.

Added the notice about Sydney going missing on the 17th Jan is also in the Freemans Journal 27 Jan, it doesn’t mention the money but gives a detailed description of him and ends with John Hopkins, Enniskerry Post Office.
-
This is similar to the births of the two grandsons with Sarah Hopkins in 1901.
 https://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Wicklow/Powerscourt/Deerpark/1812150/

Edward was registered as John Edward https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1888/02504/1928694.pdf
 George - Richard George https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1892/02324/1870500.pdf

There is also a William Robert b 1890
 https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1892/02324/1870500.pdf

 NB
I posted the death of Henry George earlier. He was the son of John Hopkins and Sarah Smith of Waterfall, Powerscourt. That John was a Gate Keeper - https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1868/03421/2255265.pdf
-
I just noticed that the residence on the birth of Edward Sydenham was Sydenham Road, Dundrum.
 John, father’s residence is Powerscourt.

Sarah Alice Hopkins b 1866 - John and Sarah(Smith) residence Waterfall Gate
 https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1866/03520/2295114.pdf

 Sarah Jane b 1871 - residence Waterfall

-
The notice for missing Sydney in 1877 gives his address as Powerscourt Deer Park Gate.

-
John Hopkins death in 1891 has residence as Deerpark and 1901 census for Sarah is Deerpark.
