I'm trying to help a cousin locate information on her dad.
Kenneth George Brown was born 4/8/1929 in Hampstead, London to Stanley & Priscilla Lily (Lilian)
He went to Australia a couple of times but came back to the UK.
On 7/3/1956 he went to Canada, arriving at New Brunswick in April of 1956. A son was born in July 1956 but Kenneth absconded straight after the birth. No trace can be found of him after this date.
There are trees on Ancestry who have a D.O.D. for him in England but the birth information doesn't match & I think its wrong.
We have found documents for the years 1929 to 1956 but nothing after.
Could anyone point me in the right direction please? I've no idea about Canada records or where to start.
Thanks in advance to any helpers/
Pauline

The 1929 birth shows mothers maiden name as Swan.
There is no marriage between a Stanley Brown & a Priscilla or Lilian Swan
Did you get his birthdate & parental details from his birth cert or elsewhere?
-
Priscilla Lily Swan was b 1897 - see freebmd
She married Percy G Root in 1919. He died 1962 in Isle of Wight & administration was granted to his widow Priscilla Lily Root
Does his birth cert confirm the birthdate & parentage you have stated as the tree on Ancestry shows 16.7.1929. From the info above you appear to have the wrong parents as does the tree owner
-
Incorrect 1907 marriage - ignore
-
This is all confusing!
The address of the Kenneth Brown on the passenger list, 20 Hillfield Road, Hampstead, matches to a 1939 entry for Stanley Brown, wife Lilan, and in the same household, is a single Bridget Root, who's freebmd says born 1920 to mmn Swan.
-
We have 2 different birth dates in 1929 - where did they come from??
Bridget was Bridget Root - not Brown
Just because the address shows Stanley & Lilian Brown does not mean they were Kenneths parents. The passenger list for May 1950 also shows Hillfield Rd so there is clearly a connection. However - I do not think his mother was Priscilla Lily
Would suggest the 1929 birth cert is purchased? How have you arrived at a birth in Hampstead? Is that an assumption based on the address on the passenger list?
-
Look at Stanley Brown’s birthyear in relation to the birthyear for Sarah on the 1939 entry
Have you looked for a marriage between Stanley & Lilian to establish her maiden name?
As Bridget was b 1920 - have you looked for her on the 1921 census?
-
As Bridget was b 1920 - have you looked for her on the 1921 census?
Search using Percy George Root because Mother and daughter are not recorded with their formal names
(Sorry we aren’t supposed to give full details from the 1921)
-
Percy appears to say he is widowed in 1939
Another Root/Swan child born 1923
-
This is the birth reg for the Percy G Root on the 1939 register
Births Jun 1886
Percy George Root Chelmsford 4a 403 mmn Plume - parents William & Eliza
There is also this birth
Births Sep 1888
Percy George Root Watford 3a 540 mmn Wootton - parents Henry & Eliza (freebmd have her as Wotton)
The 1919 marriage for Percy & Priscilla shows Percy's father as William. occupation Carpenter Percy is 33yrs old so he is the 1886 birth. The 1891 census for Percy shows father William occ carpenter
The 1888 Percy George Root appears to have died in Canada 11.3.1963

Thank you for all your work!
Yes we have certificates/1921 census & 1939 Register information. We have parents & grandparents information too.
The problem was Priscilla did a runner after marrying Percy. She had the 2 children & then left. She never divorced him & when he died in 1962 on the Isle of Wight he left her everything. There is no marriage between Priscilla & Stanley Brown but she used his name & altered her name to Lilian. I'm not sure of the reasons behind this but it looks to me like she didn't want to be found.
The trouble we're having is finding information on Kenneth. He moved around so often it's making it difficult, plus the surname Brown doesn't help. He was definitely last seen in Toronto Western Hospital in 1956. He had several children to different women all over the world so as yet more may appear through DNA testing on Ancestry. (So far England, Australia & Canada)
Thank you again for all the help. Best wishes

I wonder why Percy Root shows himself as a widower on the 1939 register?
You say that when he died - Percy left everything to Priscilla. He didn't - as there was no will - the probate entry shows Administration was granted to Priscilla
-
Percy definitely left a will with all the proceeds going to Priscilla. It was administrated in London.
Best wishes

There was no will. Otherwise it would say “probate to”. Have you downloaded it from the probate website? Costs £1.50
