Hi, and a Happy New Year to everyone!
I was hoping someone might be able to take a photo and make a note of the memorial inscription of a grave/headstone for me when next in East Cemetery, Gloucester Road, Boscombe, Bournemouth?
The grave is for Fanny Josephine Fox who died on 15 July 1935, and Kate Williams who died on 6 December 1937, grave number R6/189. I am not sure whether there is a headstone or not.
I have attached a plan of the cemetery with an approximate location of the grave shown by the orange blob to the right hand side of the plan.
Many thanks! Nina

Would it not be best to contact the cemetary or records office first & establish if there is a headstone? If there isn’t - it would be a wasted journey
A large number of old headstones have been removed from cemetaries under H&S regs

Hi - I emailed them some time ago and asked them - they got back to me with a grave number but no info about a headstone so I emailed again and am awaiting a reply. Even if there is no headstone, I would still love a photo of the grave plot itself, if it can be located. Nina

Did you ask if there was a headstone.
Findagrave apparently has over 2,500 photos of headstones at this cemetery, it is likely that if there was one it would be on there.
Unless there is someone on duty at the time of a visit it is unlikely that the exact location of the grave would be found.

If there is no headstone all you will see is a patch of grass that could be anywhere, so that is all a photograph would show.
I know this because my paternal grandmother was buried there in 1936. Then my father’s first wife was buried in the same plot in 1939, there is no headstone and no marker.

The cemetery is really clear on google earth, have you considered taking a screen shot of the area

Looks like a great big tree shadow where the grave might be on Google Earth! Just spoke to a cousin who lives in USA and he is certain that there is a headstone, but has no photos and has never been to the cemetery himself. No worries, I will try and make a trip to the cemetery myself when I next make a trip to the UK. Nina

Hello Nina. I am new here so hope I am doing this message right!
I am going to visit East Cemetery next month and am more than happy to have a potter about for you to see if I can find R6/189. If I find it I will take photos etc and let you know and you can tell me your email. I have many grave photos in my family tree that have no memorial but it's still nice to have a photo of the plot anyway. Hopefully there might be someone there to ask if there is no headstone. Fingers crossed! I will do my best.
