Hi, Can anyone tell me if i can access any police records, My great grandfather was a police constable in london in 1920, I only have a address of Kilburn Priory London N.W.6 for where his wife lived. The reason i ask this is because my ggrandfather charles joseph stanley , have a very lets just say interesting ( criminal ) lifestyle, and was wondering if there was any records from his time in the police force,
Many thanks

Hi, I expect you've seen this, but googling his name produces a record from the National Archives that gives the relevant dates and his warrant number at least...
https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C13365347
"Charles Joseph Stanley, warrant number 110111. Joined on 17 May 1920, and left on 23 Oct 1923. Last posted to X Division as a PC."
Also found several newspaper mentions of him on Find My Past.

It's worth looking at the Metropolitan Police Archives
https://www.met.police.uk/police-forces/metropolitan-police/areas/about-us/about-the-met/met-museums-archives/family-and-local-history/
It looks as though you have to visit in person though.

MEPO 4 has been digitised. Using the link given above in reply #1, click Go to Record, and then the link Preview an image of this record.
The entry for your man is at the top of image 59 (of 150), which shows he was ‘Requested to Resign’.
For any more detail you would probably have to contact the Metropolitan Police Archives (see reply #4 above).
