Hello list members,
I am trying to help a family member out
With her family tree. We have hit a brick wall and can get any further back than James Bowden who married Mary Marshall. Mary was born in 1888 possible in the Midlands area and her parents were
Mark Marshall and Annie Kelly.
Love to go back further on both lines.
Thank you
Tim

Can you please post all the details on the Bowden/Marshall marriage?

Cannot see a marriage for her.

"James Bowden who married Mary Marshall".
Where and when did this couple marry?

Tasmania - Correctional Institution Records:
This appears to be Mary using the names Mary BOWDEN/Mary MARSHALL/Mary LEONARD/Annie WHITTAKER ::)

There are 2 different Mary Frances Marshalls in Tasmania.
One is born in 1888 as per previous post.
Another is older than that, has a son with surname Bowden, and has some criminal records.
I suspect there has been confusion around this.
We have asked for clarity regarding the marriage mentioned in the opening post, but so far, nothing has been forth-coming. :)

Sorry about the delay, I haven't used this sight for a while and just sorting how to navigate around it again. The information I do have is very sketchy and un verified at the moment.
I have attached a very basic tree.

The Tasmanian electoral roll shows the couple Arthur Edward CHIVERS and Dora Mary at 3 Henry Street Hobart in 1928. He is a quarryman.
It seems he went missing in 1943.

Merlin's post reminded me that I had worked on this before. Eventually found it and will post it here. I think I didn't originally post it because I couldn't be sure that it was relevant and it still may not be.....
There is virtually no BODEN/BOWDEN presence in Strahan. However there was an Alfred BOWDEN who was from Taranna on the Tasman Peninsular. He had a relationship with Mary Frances MARSHALL (I cannot see a marriage) and they had a son named Alfred Henry James born in 1895 who appears to have been known as 'James'.

Mary BOWDEN also registered the birth of another child in 1894, Mary Frances MARSHALL, illegitimate daughter of Annie MARSHALL. I think that Mary and Annie (Agnes) were the daughters of Luke MARSHALL and Jane

By 1898, Alfred Snr. had moved to Queenstown and then later to Hall's Creek near Strahan and worked on the Mt Lyall railway. In 1900 he was named as co-respondent in the divorce between Margaret Jane WELLS formerly ALLEN, and her husband. The divorce case papers are here:

Alfred and Margaret Jane married in 1901. The marriage notice is here:

In 1906 they applied to have Alfred's son James (Alfred Jnr) admitted to the Hobart Boy's Home as he was uncontrollable. Reading between the lines it seems to be the wicked step mother who was the problem. The case papers are here:

Meanwhile while all this was going on, a Mary BOWDEN alias MARSHALL/LEONARD/Annie WHITTAKER was making a nuisance of herself in Carnarvon and Hobart. Could this be James' mother?

A lot to unpack ;D and I remember having issues with the surname HARDREW because it doesn't seem to be a real name.
