Hi Lyndyloo :)
Where have you been?!
For genealogy purposes, Arbuthnott parish was in Kincardineshire.

For genealogy purposes, Arbuthnott parish was in Kincardineshire.
For all purposes before they *****ed up the local authorities in Scotland in 1975, and for historical and ceremonial purposes at all times, Arbuthnott is in Kincardineshire aka the County of Kincardine.

thankyou all. I am now retired and hopefully can start again.
I an researching my mums side the Welsh (name) side of family.
I have been to Arbuthnot church last September. I Knew that they lived in The Tenements, Milltown in the 1850s. can anyone say where they buried their dead. I never found anything in the graveyard there. is ther more than one graveyard. Today I have looked at the Old Parish register. There are many Welsh's listed in births and deaths and marriages. the earliest birth I have is 1644. Earliest marriage is 1650 and earliest death is 1690.
thankyou for any pointers,
Lynda

They'll be in the parish kirkyard, but if there's no gravestone there may not be any other records.
Unusually, there are some records of burials in the Arbuthnott parish register, but there don't seem to be any in the 1800s.
You could have a look at the parish accounts in the records of Arbuthnott Kirk Session and see if there are any payments for the mortcloth. This was a large cloth that was rented out for a fee and draped over the coffin during the funeral service.
