Hi I'm trying to trace the history of a family member who was a professional golfer at Newport in the 1920s. Griffith Williams was born in Harlech in north Wales in 1893 and was a professional golfer somewhere in the London area before the first world war. When he came back from the war he was a club professional in Newport. I found an article from 2001 stating that Gwyn James, who was a club professional at Newport for 40 years, used to be a 12 year old caddy for Griffith Williams in 1920. Griffith married Ethel Mary Cox in Newport Market in 1922. I would be grateful of any further information about him. Thanks in advance.

He is on the 1939 register - details are not allowed by Rootschat so you will need to look it up yourself. He is living in Monmouthshire
Possible death in 1949

Oh, sorry, I didn’t realise that.
You will have to use the British Newspaper archive or FindMyPast then.
If you haven’t used the BNA before, you get three free views.

My guess is he was a professional at Newport Golf Club (founded 1903) you could try and contact them. They have a Facebook page or via their website. There is a copy of his marriage certificate on FindMyPast if you don’t have it.
Steve.
