Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me?
One of my ancestors, Robert Barwick, was born in Dalton, Yorkshire. He was a farmer for 40yrs and was a Catholic. I know this info from some old deeds my mother has that have been passed down the family.
My issue is I’ve not been able to find his Christening record. Is there anywhere I can find the Catholic records for Dalton parish for the early 1700s. I think he must have been born between 1700-1702. Many thanks

Could you please state where Dalton is - what country, what county?
And by the way, if your ancestor was a Roman Catholic you need the Roman Catholic Parish records for wherever Dalton is (and the surrounding area) not Non-Conformist records.
Ah, sorry , presumably it's in Yorkshire - didn't notice this was the Yorkshire board.

Dalton is in Yorkshire North Riding area.
Thanks for the info, I’ve searched most genealogy sites for his Christening record and nothing has come up.

At that time a Catholic priest who was caught would probably be executed. So any baptism would have been in private and secret. The chances of any record surviving are very small.
If the Dalton in question is the one near Thirsk then that would likely be within the Middlesbrough diocese. I do not think Ampleforth was set up that early.

There are 2 Daltons in N Yorks, one in Topcliffe parish and the other in Kirby Ravensworth.
Checking the guide for N. Yorkshire county record Office, there are no RC records as early as 1700. See

Sometimes the RC are in the C of E register marked as papists

According to this database, there was a family at Forcett NYorks called Barwick who were Catholic. There is a Robert son of Robert christened 1704 according to the PR with "they said" which I take to mean that this child was not baptized by the local C of E priest.

Other children born to Robert Barwick at Forcett were Henry, Mary and Ann.
