Title: St Stephens Sneinton Notts
Post by: lin-james on Saturday 25 November 23 22:30 GMT (UK)
Is any one able to look at two marriages which were held at St Stephens Church Sneinton Notts  please.
One is a marriage between James Ratcliffe/ Mary Saunders  15th Sept 1846 . I am interested to know their martial status and who were the witnesses. Also for a Amelia Irons and a Joseph Richardson on the 2nd September 1847. Again I would be very interested to their martial status ages and who were the witnessed the marriage.

Thanks again for the information. I have now discovered that Joseph Richardson died in 1851 soon after retiring from the Police and that Amelia went onto marry again to another policeman, but that she also died in 1857.

The mystery I have is that Amelia was obviously married to a chap by the name of Irons. Do you have any ideas how I can find out when she married her first husband and where it was. On the 1851 census Amelia states Stoke Golding Leicestershire as were born. I have not been able to locate her in the 1841 census.

You could look for her father Stephen Ratcliffe in 1841 to see if that gives any clues.

Or look for a Mr Irons death before she married again in 1847.

When was Amelia born?

Where did Joseph die in 1851?  Nothing in Notts.  Who did Amelia then marry - when & where

We need her birthyear to establish whether her previous marriage to Irons could have been pre-1837

I can’t find the 1851 entry you mention

EDIT - 1851 is under Richards - living in Leics - Amelia b 1817

There is a marriage in Mountsorrel of an Emma Ratcliff and a Joseph Irons Emma's father is Stephen Ratcliff, the marriage took place 31 March 1834 Emma was 19.
Emma is one of the names that is sometimes substituted for Amelia . There are 2 records on the other she is Emily

Thank you everyone. I think that the Emma Ratcliffe who married aged 19 in 1834 is definitely my Amelia.  Re the 1851 census where I located Amelia with Joseph - Richards is Richardson. Joseph Richardson died in Loughborough in 1851 ( Nov 7th Leicestershire Journal) and other local papers give the details. The funeral was at St George’s Church I hope the Church records would confirm that.
Amelia then married James Wetherell 2nd Dec 1852 but I have found a record that Amelia Wetherell died in December 1857 in Loughborough and then James Wetherell married a Mary Anne Baum on the 29th July 1858 at All Saints Loughborough.

Hope that helps with all the questions that were asked.
