Title: Rollo
Post by: Birdiemoore60 on Tuesday 21 November 23 15:46 GMT (UK)
Hi there, it's me again after some more help.

So you may recall that I was looking for a John Rollo born 1902 in Fraserburgh. I found and managed to finish his life story. Now I'm struggling with his mum.

Mary fraser ogston/Anderson born 1883 in Fraserburgh. She is in census documents up until 1911. She is also noted as Alive in her daughters marriage certificates in the late 20s but doesn't come up in 1921 census.

According to her death cert she died in 1969 in cornhill hospital. Upon further digging I found a mary rollo admitted to aberdeen royal lunatic asylum in 1918. She is also noted as being weak minded. My granny told me she was a poor thing who could not read or write.

Can anyone help me find her? I have tired SP, ancestory and find my past.

I have so much about her up until 1911 but after that the trail goes cold until 1969 when her death is logged.

Not a big deal but SP says Mary Fraser Anderson born in 1882 not 1883. Married at 18 in 1900.

If she was admitted to hospital in 1918, is possibly recorded just by her initials in 1921 (which would be on scotlandspeople so we would have to pay to check records that might be her), and then you would have to pay to get them to find her on 1939.  Have you got her exact date of birth - presumably not, but that is perhaps needed for a full search on 1939 to be done.

Yes

I see her death was registered under 3 surnames - Anderson/Ogston/Rollo

Some records say 1883 one said 82. But that is her. I will go back into the scotland people and check initials but I'm really stumped.

Checked with initials and nothing comes up.

It's a head scratcher. She definitely didn't leave Scotland and I have letters written by her daughter Mary who discusses her death in 1969 but no new information from that.

There is a Mary Jane Rolla in 1921 Census in Fraserburgh. I wondered if this could be her.

various Aberdeenshire Newspapers 1906 have news item of Mary (Anderson) Rollo and John Rollo. Unfortunately I am unable to see it, but perhaps someone can do so and onpass to Birdiemoore60.

I have used my three haha. The neglect story highlights the domestic abuse . I also  found other articles of her husband who drinks, fights steals etc. Not much wonder she was a nervous wreck.
