Title: Missing baptisms BETWEEN 1765 AND 1771
Post by: Rosezi on Monday 20 November 23 18:01 GMT (UK)
Help needed to find missing baptisms (if any) between 1765 and 1771 for a Joseph Gilchrist and Margaret Carnaby who were married in Mordington, Berwickshire in 1765. They then moved to Stirling and had three children born in the parish of Stirling, Joseph 1771, Alexander 1772 and Robert 1775. I have searched in Mordington and Stirling for the missing baptisms but nothing was found.

As a first step you can check by consulting https://www.nrscotland.gov.uk/files//research/list-of-oprs/detailed-list-of-old-parochial-registers-of-scotland.pdf which parishes have records missing for the years you are searching.

This is 20 years earlier then the birth of Thomas but it is in Berwickshire. It seems like it must be related but not sure how.

Have you seen this document on SP?

GILCHRIST

MARY

GEORGE GILCHRIST/MARY CARNIBEE FR80 (FR80)
F
18/03/1751

Ladykirk

Could be related or could be one of those coincidences.

No, I hadn't seen the marriage between George Gilchrist and Mary Carnaby, which is interesting  the 2 surnames are often linked. So far I have found 3 marriages between a Gilchrist and a Carnaby who all came from the parish of Tweedmouth, Both surnames also appear on baptisms for both parties. Many thanks for finding that marriage, it may be a connection.

Many thanks for the old parochial list, I had no idea this list existed. It will come is useful for all my Caithness and Orkney searches.
