I am sure this has been asked before but I can’t get any results up in search, so apologies.
I want to find out where my relative served in ww1 and anything that goes along with that. I have found his medal record and know that he was in the KRR. I have joined forces war records but I am not getting any hits and only the medal record on the national archives.
Is there anywhere else I can look for this information and better yet somewhere that I don’t have to pay for.
William Gamble Varley B: 5/2/1890

Are you already aware that over 60% of WW1 service records were burnt during the WW2 blitz

No, I didn’t know that.

Some experts on RC have info re whereabouts various regiments served during WWI which may help you
-
You say he served with the KRR & you have him on the Medal Roll. There are only 2 entries on the MRI for a William G Varley - neither of whom were in the KRR
There is a William Varley number R21768 - if this is the one you are referring to - did you already have his service number/regiment from another source?

There is an inaccurate Tree on Ancestry showing he married in 1913 in "Paris France" whereas he married in WestHam ::)
Unless you have family documentation showing his regiment & service number I cannot see how you have linked the MRI entry to him
-
I have amended that info on ancestry as the info is correct and I have no idea why it says Paris. All documentation shows he married in Walthamstow.
I think we know his regiment number as it was on a medal that we have..

3rd Battalion KRRC
Probably a War Diary which will let you know where he was usually on NA website
