Hello
Please can anyone help?
Agnes Strang married a John Barlow in 1789 in Glasgow - according to old notes from family member.
Her father was apparently a soldier. Any information would be welcomed on Agnes or John or indeed which church they married in. Thank you.

The marriage is on ScotlandsPeople which is a pay per view site
Here is a their guide to what the record may contain

Thank you
But I understand it doesn't give the church name. I am new to this so dont have any subscriptions to any websites

On ScotlandsPeople you can buy just a few credits to purchase the record you want to download.
There are also free sites such as familysearch.org, FreeReg, FreeCen. where you can look up censuses and other records. Of course the great members of RootsChat are a great resource and I am sure others will be along to help soon.
Cyndi's List has a list of links that point you to genealogical research sites for many countries online
https://www.cyndislist.com/
Even the pay to view sites can be helpful just by giving a look at their indexes.

...But I understand it doesn't give the church name...
Up to the early 1900s, most marriages ceremonies would take place in private homes (most often the bride's home). From the 1900s, church weddings become more common as the venue for marriages.

Thanks to all for the advice and info.

But I understand it doesn't give the church name.
The records on Scotland's People are from the parish registers, mainly the Church of Scotland.
Most wedding ceremonies were not held in a church building. The normal place for a wedding was in the bride's parents' home or, if she had no parents or was married a long way from home, in the manse or in her employer's home. A marriage record from 1789 is unlikely to state exactly where the ceremony took place.
Weddings in church only became popular towards the end of the 20th century.
I am new to this so dont have any subscriptions to any websites.
Scotland's People is not a subscription site.
See https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=714261.0 before you waste money on a subscription site.

If they followed the SNT, it suggests that the father of Agnes was named John and her mother, Agnes

Thank you Sancti.
Are these on Scotlandspeople as recommended by Forfarian? :) :)
best wishes

just checked .... they are

Church records, normally, contain little additional info other than the names of those involved, but some ministers were more diligent than others and the marriage record may mention her father's name.
Baptism records may contain address and occupation of father

Baptism records may contain address and occupation of father
I have four from Barony in the 1790s/1800s. Three name the parents' district of residence, and one gives the father's occupation (he was a reverend). All four list the names of the witnesses.

A reverend Forfarian. Which child birth is he mentioned? Thanks again

I looked at the marriage in 1789 for John and Agnes on Scotlandspeople. John was a soldier in the 55th Regiment. Need to think about where any record of joining etc might be.
Also looked at birth for son John in 1796. Just names and dates. Then credits expired :) :)
