Hi Everyone I am doing research on the above couple who were in Philadelphia PA c 1820's at the time of the birth of one of their sons Charles Henry GRAY junior.
Charles H GRAY junior was married in Victoria Australia in 1861 and this is where I found the information on his parents and birth place. He states he was 38 years old
Charles snr is listed as a Soldier on his son's marriage certificate. Any help in finding some details on the GRAY/WHITE family in the USA would be great. Kind regards Dianna from Australia

Can you give a little more information from the marriage certificate, records before 1910 are often scare in the U.S.

Hi thanks for your reply I will attach the marriage certificate here. I don't think it will help too much though. Regards Dianna

I thougth with the mention of Charles' father being a "Soldier" may help. Could have been British/Revolutionary Soldier??? Thanks Dianna

The Revolutionary War was 1775-1783. The father would be too old for this.
The American Civil War was 1861-1865
The 1860 census of Pennsylvania has the following
Charles Gray 38 Waterman
Lydia 25
Walter 1
-----------------
So did this Charles Gray go to Australia ?
Are the same parents listed on his death certificate ?
I will keep looking but I haven't found him in later census so far, transcription errors are a problem.

Hi amondg thanks for your reply. Yes Charles Henry Gray came to Australia! What year I don't know as yet theres a lot to search through re shipping/immigration records.
The first record I have is the marriage certificate to Elizabeth Abbott in 1861 in Victoria.
He and Elizabeth had seven children together
It has been suggested that he came here for the Goldrush. Who knows though!
With his death there are no parents indicated from the Victoria (Aus) births deaths and marriages.
There was an inquest into his death also but did not result in any relevant facts, he was an Inn keeper/publican who died from drunkeness! Hmmm.
Where were this family that you found in 1860 located. Coincidence that the wife is Lydia here and Charles mother was Lydia White!
Anyway will see what else comes up at this end many thanks Dianna

Hi Dianne,
I am also a descendant of Charles Henry Gray and Lydia White and have been trying to find more information on him as well!
We must both have the same marriage certificate to Elizabeth Abbott.
would love to hear from you.
