Post by: mickbirty on Tuesday 07 November 23 22:28 GMT (UK)
Hi, can anyone tell me the occupation of Father from this cert. I get the Traveller bit, I think. Does that say soap? Thanks

If you can provide the context and time frame, and more of the document to compare letter formation, someone might be able to help.

Thanks, just had a look on 1939 census and it says Occupation as Salesman Soap Manufacturers. So maybe he was Travelling Salesman and not a Traveller

"of" has been deleted and the number of the deletion in the register is 14.  It has nothing to do with the occupation.

Please note mickbirty, that the 1939 was a Register, not a census. It was for recording the population for the issuing of Identity Cards etc. Service people were not included except for certain circumstances.
