Hi, I'm looking for help with the entry on this form please. It's the top entry for Helen Hay and I'm trying to make out her mother's name. It looks to me like Sarah Nielsted but that surname pretty much draws a blank everywhere so I think I'm wrong. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Could be Welsted
-
Scotlands People show it as Nielsted on the death index
-
Helen Innes married John Hay 27.6.1831 Moray

This researcher has it as Welsted.

Hello -
Given that all the other 'i's are dotted, I would also read it as Welsted.
craggagh.

I say it could be Melstead. :)
The e connects to a downward stroke properly. If a W then tendency would be to connect straight across.
Now I've looked again, I think it's connection is above the base line.
Probably Welstead.

Guys, once again you're all a great help, especially the observation about all the other i's being dotted! Thank you

One we've missed is Kielstead. Quite a common Danish name.

I believe Melsted should be considered. The inititial letter has basically similar vertical strokes as in "Married".

Yes 'Melsted' was my thought also.
