Title: Lost G.G.G.Grandmother Susan Ede
Post by: anne77 on Friday 13 October 23 18:03 BST (UK)
I have been trying to find Susan/Susannah Ede nee Taylor in the 1861 Census probably Kingston area for many years.  Her DOB is 1787 Esher according to the 1851 Census.  There are two possible burials 1863 and 1872 so in theory she should be somewhere in the 1861!  Have  drawn a blank for a marriage after the death of her husband John.  I haven't been able to find a baptism for her in Esher either.  Any ideas anyone?

Her son William and his family are missing as well so they were probably all in the part of Esher that has been lost.

Thank you for that it is very helpful.  I think the 1863 burial must be the right one.  There are quite a few Susannah Eades all married to John Edes/Eades so having to rule out each one which is not an easy task!
Thanks

Did you know you can get a digital image of the death registration to download immediately for £2.50? From the GRO site, just click on the circle next to the name for the options.

Thanks Comberton I did know about them but unfortunately they don't have the digital for either 1863 or the 1872 only the pdf. I might splash out on the 1863 pdf now but not sure that it will give me the info I need which is trying to find her mother and father.

I don't know why it is listed twice.

Hopefully it would say widow of John and his occupation, also the informant information may be helpful. Possibly the address she died at.
Good luck.

Sorry to hear that. I tried a couple of other 1863 deaths and they were okay so it might be this particular image.
Did any of her grandchildren have the surname Hooker and did any of her family live in Thames Ditton? Just an idea at the moment.

All the other names on 2a 148 in June 1863. Indexed twice by GRO, and digital images not available.
Probably the whole of Kingston RD deaths in June 1863.
In fact it looks like the whole of volume 2a deaths in that quarter may not be available as instant digital images.

johnw65 thanks for the info on the June 1863 digital images.

Comberton John and Susannah's daughter Sylvestra Rossam nee Ede was in Thames Ditton but most of the family seem to be in Esher.

There is a Hooker connection if I have the right Ede family, Mary Ede daughter of William Ede's (brother of my John Ede) married John Hooker 12th July 1851 Long Ditton both of Tolworth

Maybe she had been staying with the Hooker family in 1863?

Trish1120  Thanks I think that is the right one and have order a pdf copy.

Comberton The Ann Ede staying with the Hooker family would be Susan's sister-in-law.

Thanks for everyone's help I have still quite a puzzle but at least I know now why I couldn't find her in the 1861 and have been given enough confidence to order the 1863 death certificate.
