Title: Deciphering 16th Century Parish Register
Post by: RJMortimer on Wednesday 11 October 23 18:09 BST (UK)
Good evening,

I'd really appreciate some help deciphering the highlighted entry in the image attached. I really struggle reading this old form of writing. It is a 16th century Marriage record in Nuneaton parish register.

Many thanks,
Ryan

Mertine [Nichine? / Nichins?]
and mary
squire 25 daie

Assumption is that the words the 17 daie belong to the record above.

Also assumed (perhaps unsafely) is that the letters in the margin to the left of squire aren't part of that surname.

I'm not completely happy that his surname begins with N but can't see an alternative.

One of the subscription sites has it transcribed as Mary Squire and Martine Nichines 25 June 1599 Nuneaton.
