Hi
I'm looking for Edward's birth and parents plus 1881 and 1891 census.
This is what I do have:
Edward Claydon married Jessie Daines in 1899 Newmarket registration district.
They had the following children: Edward Amos 1899, Olive Matilda 1902, Dorothy May 1903, Elsie Valentine (direct link) 1905, Constance Alice 1906 and Laurence William 1908.
I have all of Jessie's ancestors back to the 1700s.
But I'm stuck with Edward. On both the 1901 and 1911 censuses, he gives his birthplace and date as Linton, 1876. On the 1901, he gives a middle initial of R. But I can't find him any earlier. I've checked on GRO but can't find any Edward Claydon born 1874 to 1882 in Cambridgeshire.
Can anyone help me over this stumbling point, please?

On the 1901, he gives a middle initial of R.

Two trees on Ancestry have his parents as mentioned above by Carole, going back to Thomas Mingay, 1730-1812, in Westley Waterless, Cambridgeshire, and Sarah Gregory, 1731in Kirtling-1779 in Westley.
His mother's line varies on the trees but also goes back to the same Thomas and Sarah, via a marriage between Josiah Claydon, b 1835, and Elizabeth Mingay, b 1837.
One tree goes back further but not with precise details.
On the 1921 census, the family is transcribed incorrectly as Clayton, but is Claydon. Correct as Claydon in 1939.

1851 census
John Mingay 37
Hannah 36
ELIZABETH 13
William 10
Charles 8
John 5
THOMAS 1
1861 at Registered at Risbridge Josiah Claydon married Elizabeth Mingay
1861 census
John Mingay 48
William 20
Charles 17
John 14
THOMAS 12
Richard 5
ELIZABETH CLAYDON 23 daughter
Mary 2** grand daughter
Josiah Claydon 26 son in law (he is the son of William & Elizabeth Claydon)
So Mary really was his niece, she was the daughter of Thomas' sister Elizabeth, although born before she married as Mary Eliza Mingay 1858 illegitimate, registered Newmarket.
So Josiah may or may not be her father.
ADDED
Mary Eliza Mingay was bap. 13 June 1858 at Dullingham parent mother Elizabeth Mingay.
