Title: Strangeways Prison
Post by: TrevorW on Thursday 05 October 23 12:11 BST (UK)
In the 1901 census my great grandmother Mary Jane Lowry (nee Hartley) was in Strangeways Prison.

Where can I look for more information - I don't need her information - only where to look?

I have found her sentenced to 4 months of hard labour in January 1896 under the name Mary Jane Lowrie for neglecting her son.

Thanks Trevor Walmsley, Christchurch, New Zealand.

Are you just looking for information about the prison? If so I would start with the Wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HM_Prison_Manchester) which has some useful references you can follow up on if they sound as if they have the sort of information you are after. As you may be aware only part of the old Victorian prison still remains. Women have not been housed there since 1963.
