My ancestor Sarah Isabella Johnson was born in 1818 in Carabu land and states this place on censes. Can it be Scandanavia or Canada. Thank you.
-
Is this the Isabella Drummond in the 1851 census in Liverpool? Birthplace looks like Cumberland.
What other censuses have you found for her? Please post links or details.

hi, Carabuland is also stated on her Christening in 1820 at the same time as her brother Henry Charles Johnson in Tower hamlets. It is vey hard to read but her parents were John Johnson and Mary?

I can see her baptism but I can't see "Carabuland". Under abode it says either "Both in" or "Born in" Norway.
-
I will need a little time to find the other reference but it looks like Norway is the answer however when I "googled" carubuland it had no answer other than Alberta which is possible. Thank you very much for your time, I will close here.

I searched through lists of villages and towns in Norway and, oddly enough, there wasn't a single one beginning with the letter C

Well that puts a lot of assumptions in doubt, we have assumed Sarah was Norwegian and she just was being silly in putting carabu land. In another censes it would seem she has said she was from Scotland. Thanks.

Looking at the "Abode" column on the 1820 baptism register, the one for Henry Charles is hard to read but I think it says "In their camp on Kent Road".
For Sarah Isabella it does appear to say "Born in Norway".
-
I looked at these records yesterday and I agree with Shaun's interpretation. If the census record is the correct one, it does state Cumberland as birthplace.

Add - I didn't look at Henry Charles's entry

I think it says ...
? John Street, Cannon Street Road
which is in St George in the East, close to the church.

That makes more sense !

Yes I agree with others about the birthplace of Henry Charles.....my idea for the Sarah entry is that while it may say Norway it may be a location in the east as well. All over the world there are locations such as little London, little Stanton, London road etc and I am wondering if there was a place known as 'Norway' or little Norway out East (ie in London).
If the location of birth is later given as Cumberland it seems to me that Carabuland may be a misreading of that.

This is not her, the baptism of Selina DRUMMOND shows her parents as Robert a mariner and Isabella. The birth has her mother's maiden name as COWELL.
DRUMMOND, SELENIA COWELL
Mother's maiden surname: COWELL
GRO Reference: 1846 S Quarter in LIVERPOOL Volume 20 Page 368

This would be a good idea so that we can see where she says she was born.

Sarah in 1841 with her husband and father, here she is stated to be born in Scotland.

If born in Scotland, could the place of birth be a misheard Cumbernauld?

John Grant DRUMMOND isn't the son of Sarah Isabella JOHNSON either, his mother was Sarah GRANT and his father John was a baker.
I cannot see any DRUMMOND/JOHNSON births before John DRUMMOND's death. Perhaps Sarah followed her brother to Australia?

So we have Sarah Isabella Johnson who was born in Norway and may have married John Drummond, a cabinet maker, but that Sarah was born in Scotland per the 1841 census.
And we have Isabella Cowell from Cumberland who had a daughter Selena in Liverpool with Robert Drummond, a mariner.
Who are you actually researching, Tavy?
