Pte 908 James Hadden 8th Royal Scots KIA 16/05/1915
It seems the Army had him under Haddon
His 1914 Star Card says J Hadden but with note about error in 1928?
The British War Medal and Victory Medal Card says Haddon but red X suggests Name corrected?
Scotland Records under Haddon
CWGC originally under J Haddon not sure if Memorial corrected.
Soldiers Effects under Haddon
Dependents Pension under Hadden
Question from Family - Were the Medals Amended to Hadden ?
-
Looking at his entry on the Medal Rolls for his BWM and VM, I would say that they had been issued in the name of HADDEN due to the correction of his name and the remark in the end column. (image courtesy of Ancestry)

Thanks for your Input
1914 Mons Star Card says Hadden with note saying issued in error ?
Very Confusing

The remark actually says 'Rose issued in error'
The rose to the 1914 Star was issued to soldiers (there were exceptions) who were in a theatre of war and under fire between 5th August and 22nd November 1914. Hadden did not enter a theatre of war (as per his medal index card) until the 5th November 1914, he mustn't have been under enemy fire until after 22nd November 1914.

Brilliant AllanUK that explains that note - Cheers
Does that mean his had Rose issued in error ?
-
It would appear that the War Office had issued the rose (to attach to his 1914 Star ribbon) in error and had asked for it to be returned.
-
Aaah that explains more - Cheers

Roses were not intended to be issued to soldiers who had died. Isn't that the more likely explanation for the rose being issued in error?
