Hi,
my 4th Gt Grandfather, John Dunbavand b 1823 • Runcorn, Cheshire. His occupation on Census is a Waterman. I'm surprised that they would look so smart. What exactly is this uniform?
Can anyone add to the information given?
Sorry if I have posted in the wrong place.
Thanks,
Red :)

The only info that I can offer is that in one family line there was a Father and his sons who were all Watermen and one of them later became a Customs Inspector on the docks.

Hi
Perhaps he had a son b. around 1848 who maintained the same street address as his parents in later life? This news item says father Captain.

DEATHS. DUNBATAND.—October 30th, at 15. Bridgewater-A.. Eliza, the beloved wife of John Dunbavand
Newspaper- Runcorn Examiner
County- Cheshire, England
I do not know what census you mention, but I see a man who may be correct in 1891. He lives with his wife Eliza at 9 Bridgewater street Runcorn. He is a mariner aged 67. A grandson aged 27 is with them. Named John and also a mariner.
Not sure this is of help or not.

The hat and cap badge resembles a Firefighter Uniform from the USA!
Is the photo confirmed to be your ancestor?
Any links with the USA?

wow!
Thank you all for the information given.
I have been researching my tree for a long time and consider myself to be very careful when adopting information from another's research.
I actually found this photograph attached to his profile on what I assumed to be a reliable source on Ancestry.
I will now remove it.
It shows that even after years of experience and being told time and time again to not copy non-sourced information, I still did it. :-[
Thanks so much,
Red :)
