Title: Margaret Mary Byrne
Post by: Lisa_Dee1969 on Saturday 02 September 23 21:33 BST (UK)
Hello, please can anyone tell me how I can find my grandmother birth certificate which I believe was  destroyed in a fire.

BIRTH 20 NOVEMBER 1924 • Carlow, County Carlow, Ireland
DEATH 18 MAR 2007 • 40 Plowden Road, Manchester, Lancashire, England

She must  have had a passport as I believed she travelled in later life. She had 2 sisters Bernadette and Patricia. Her father shows as Michael Byrne Deseased on her marriage certificate

which I believe was  destroyed in the fire at the records office?

If you are referring to the fire of 1922 - that would not have affected a birth cert 2 years later?

Are you referring to some other fire??

this is too recent to be online, only birth records over 100 years ago are online see IrishGenealogy.ie website (https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp).

Birth marriage and death certs were not effected by this fire.

You have to contact or visit the GRO for more recent births

She married 1947 - her marriage cert will at least give you her fathers name

Marriages Dec 1947
Byrne    Margaret    Runcorn    10a   1073
Newby    Arthur     Runcorn    10a   1073

It was a civil marriage so can't be looked up - you have to buy the cert

What is your source for this information -

"BIRTH 20 NOVEMBER 1924 • Carlow, County Carlow, Ireland"

Can you list all the details in the marriage certificate.

If this was the right marriage, then an older sister was born in 1922.
Winifred 13 September 1922.

Her Mother was called Mary she died giving birth, her sisters were Bernadette and Patricia, they were sent to the Nuns to raise. Apparently the father Micheal was a Redcoat in the Military.

What is a Redcoat?  I've only heard it in relation to the British in the US back in the early days and through to the American Revolution but would this apply in the 1920s?

No sorry I don't have births for the sisters. It was a family member who mention Redcoats, I was confused also at this?

Not Bernadette?

There is a birth in the indexes on Ancestry
Margaret Mary Byrne, Carlow Birth quarter Oct-December 1924 vol 3 page 269.
You can read here about ordering certificates. You can order an uncertified copy for 5 euros.
https://www2.hse.ie/services/births-deaths-and-marriages/order/birth-certificate/

There is a Julia Byrne in 1926, Carlow and 2 or 3 Patricia Byrnes.

I don’t think you need that. There is possibly an easier certificate application but I can never find it.
Have a search and see.
